Winchester M70 Bottom Metal

I see on Pacific Tool & Gauge where they have the Winchester Model 70 FN PBR Detachable Mag Bottom Metal for a long action on sale. Does anyone know if this will work on any post 64? Mine is a 70's model Model 70 XTR, which has 3 bottom action screws. I called PT&G and the lady really couldn't answer my question besides saying she knows it will work with the 2-screw action but wasn't sure about the 3-screw action. Any idea?

The center action screw just holds the front of the trigger guard. The DBM guard will work if both are for the same length action. There will need be some stock inletting changes, but pretty simple. I have a 721 re-barreled to 270 and fitted with a DBM bottom metal.

The PBR is based on the FN made Winchesters made 2008-present. The bottom metal is slightly different as is the stock where it bolts on. I think it may be possible with some work on the stock, the inletting in the stock for the bottom metal is different on 1964-2006 made rifles.

If you were to purchase a stock made for current production rifles it would be a lot easier. They bolt right to the action, the bottom metal is the only difference.

Lots of guys sell take off factory stocks if you look around. The B&C Medalist is about $260 new.

Thanks guys. That clears it up. The center action screw will probably be machined away anyway to put the extended mag box in it for the longer 338 RUM.
