Galil idea scrapped, AR15 time!!

Ok I have been doing a lot of research over the past couple of days on a Galil .223 from Centerfire Systems. Since the rifle was most likely manufactured by Century and I have seen so much negative feedback on Century that now I am looking to get in on a lower end AR15.

That said, I was browsing my Centerfire Systems gunporno once again, and they have some Interarms AR-15s. I would like to get opinions on the Interarms ARs if thats possible.

Couple of questions about them first though. I see the cheaper ones are flat tops. Is it possible to mount an iron sight to a flat top? Im sure it is but I want to be absolutely certain before I go leaping headfirst into the jungle. I was Army for 8 years and I rather like the iron sights that were on my M16. With proper sighting in I could always knock down those dreaded 300m targets on test day.

Also there are some AR Star15s and Doublestars for around 100-150 more. Wonder what makes them more expensive?? Those are probably out of my price range anyways because I was looking for something in the 600s. Oh and what about Olympic Arms ARs? Those are pretty cheap usually.

Thanks for the advice in advance and happy shooting!

what do you mean by "cheaper"? can you give us a price range? i don't know anything about that manufacturer. i personally own a pimped out rra that i love and a sig p556 pistol. the 556 isn't technically an ar, but it is very similar. you can get a rifle version for around $1k. the rra i bought was about $1k too.

1k hurts just looking at it, hehe. My price range is around 600-700 if it is at all possible. The rifles that I posted about are in that range, except for the AR STAR-15 and the DOUBLESTAR which are in the high 700s. I Might be able to sqeeze my wallet really really hard and harvest from the money tree out back enough to be able to afford the 700s ones but I would much rather spend down in the 600s so I could get some spare mags and iron sights to attach and whatnot.

In my catalog I see Doublestars for $769.99. Why are you a fan of them? A particular reason or is it the whole package? What is it about them that warrants an extra $100 dollar investment? Thanks for the recommendation and I will look into it on my own as well.

Yes, you can put irons on the flat top. i don't think you are going to like the price though. get one that has a static handle or one that comes with a detachable and sights.

Don't worry about the price of the gun so much.... you will easily spend more than the gun is worth in a few weeks or months on ammo than you did the gun.

I just picked up a Bushmaster XM 15 E2S at a gunshow for 759.00. 16" Chrome lined barrel and telescoping butt stock. Good entry level and will double as home defense because of the size.

I used to own an XM 15 from Bushmaster. Think I traded a SIG .357 for it at my local gun shop. Nice looking weapon but it had no flash suppressor. I would have a 3-4 foot ball of fire come out the end of the thing when I was shooting it.

That was in my younger collecting days. Had to sell most of my collection when the economy went down the toilet and I didn't have a job. Mine had a solid stock though.

Check CMMG. They usually have a basic model that goes for around $600.

http://cmmginc.secure-mall.com/shop/ Is this the right place? Everything I saw in there was either close to or over the 1k mark Maybe you can link me to what you were speaking of?

I believe they are sold out at this time, there is a retailer carrying the guns with a storefront and who exhibits at many gun shows in the midwest. He likely still has plenty in stock. And I forgot their name, still searching.

I assume this retailer has a FFL? My LGS has a rule about that. They won't accept anything unless it comes from another FFL. And also does he have an internet site or do I just need to call him? (if you remember who it was)

Found it: http://www.blackriflellc.com/pages/store.html

They ask that you call and talk. Best way to get all the right answers.

LOL free popsicles while you shop. Nothing goes better with guns than a free popsicle. Got to hand it to them for an original marketing plan!

Well I guess CMMG is not currently selling the $599 special. That sucks. Keep searching, you'll find something. Doublestars are pretty good for the money. A guy I work with has one and its a good shooter.
