Bersa 380 auto safety

Ive inherited a Bersa 380 auto pistol and have the toughest time getting the safety to move on and off. I have oiled the works up real good but that did not change anything. I believe in an emergency use of the Bersa it would take "more than a moment" or two to get it off safety. I have heard that using it extensively on the range will eventually make it easier to use but I have a problem with that solution. I am 78 and just do not go out to practice that often. Surely Bersa company did not mean to make moving the safety that difficult. Sure would appreciate any suggestions as I under stand it is a good little pistol. Sapello.

The Bersa is a neat little gun. This sight is dedicated to the Bersa and they even have smiths to answer questions. Good luck.
