The 204 will be a little easier on pelts and flatter shooting. The 204 is a 222 Remington magnum necked to 20 caliber. Reloading is going to run the same for either one.

For that application I'd pick the 204. Since you have a 222 I'm not sure it's worth switching, unless you just want a change.

Sorry to bring this post up to the first page but I was wondering the same thing. My question is in regard to pistol barrel length. I have 222rem for a TC and was thinking about 204 in its place. Would there be any difference out of a short tube with these cartridges? I just got the 222rem with a trade and dont have the dies for it or the 204 so it would be a fresh start with either.

Here's a test of 204 with various barrel lengths:

I can't find one for the 222.

If I already had a 222Rem I would not get a .204Ruger. It'll shoot a little flatter, but who cares. Load up some 40gr VMAX's in your 222 and let 'em rip. Now if I didn't already own a 222Rem, I'd be looking at a 22-250Rem. My biggest gripe about the 20 cal is cleaning supplies. Funnels as well. Plus there is very little in terms of bullet weight selection with the 20.

There is a TON of different bullets to choose from for your 222, I doubt we'll ever see that for the .204s. jd
