Higher end, non target style, 22lr. Help me decide
I want a nicer full size 22lr. I have a Ruger MKIII and 22/45 and a Norinco TT Olympia so I want this gun to be a more combat style. I have held the Ruger sr22 and the browning 1911 and they are just too small for me. I want it to:
1) Eat as many different brands/types of ammo as possible 2) Be accurate enough for backyard paper punching (doesn't have to win competitions but needs to hold its own I have a short list of: Sig P226 classic CZ Kadet (can't find one though) Kimber rimfire 1911 RIA 22 1911 Beretta 87 (I know it is smaller but I have an 84) S&W M&P 22 Looking for something a little "nicer" than the GSG/Sig 1911 and beretta noes/S&W 21 Does anyone have the guns mentioned on my list? How ammo picky is it? How accurate? Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance |

Kimber comes to mind with the conversion kit.
Sig mosquito? It's not high end though IMO. I have one and it shoots well. I just bought an advantage arms conversion for my glock 19. I haven't shot it yet. Volquartsen makes a fine .22 pistol but its not combat style and its very expensive for a .22 |

If you can find a CZ Kadet, great; you could also look for a Kadet conversion kit, which is what I did. It works with my P01s and my SP01.
This was shot at 10 yards, 70 rounds with the Kadet mounted on a P06 (recently sold the P06): It's accurate enough; it may require some filing to get it to fit the rails on your particular CZ, but nothing major; it functions well. The only thing I don't like about it is that the magazine ears really prick at the fingers when loading; they are very narrow. The magazine is basically a .22LR magazine built into a full-size 9mm magazine outer shell. The conversion kit comes with 2x 10rd magazines, and its own slide stop. |

The CZ Kadet kit has had great reviews. As a rule I'd tend to stay away from conversions but given the Kadets reviews, I'd like to try it out on my P-01. One of my shooting partners recently purchased the SW M&P 22 and we've both been very impressed with the pistol. He also shoots the SW M&P 9 so it was almost a no brainer given the similarities between the MP 22 and MP 9, to buy a dedicated 22 in the MP 22. The SW M&P 22 is 12 +1 capacity and I found the pistol to be a lot of fun to shoot.

Thanks. Have y'all found the CZ and S&W to be ammo picky? Have you ran any bulk 22 through it?

How about the ISSC M22? I dont have any experience with it... just a suggestion. There are 22 conversions for the Kel-Tec PF9 and P11. There also is a 22 conversion coming for the Ruger LC9. Not sure any of those would be what you are looking for.
Conversions here |

My range rents out an M&P-22 and it is awesome. Very fun to use. Pretty accurate too.

The Kadet has not been fussy, but I normally use CCI in it. The dud rate with Remington bulk has been high in ALL my .22s (S&W 18; Kadet; SIG P220 conversion; 10/22). I am not a fan of low-grade bulk ammo.
My parents have a SIG Mosquito. It runs well with better ammo, but is very dependent on proper bullet weight. Check owners manual or use search function. |

How about a S&W 422? These have been out of production for a while, but are still easily found. Full size, very accurate, 12 shot, light weight.

Take a look at the GSG1911, all I have run through it is different kind's of bulk ammo with very few ftf or fte. I also have a S&W M&P 22, also a very good 22.

Buy a 9MM CZ-75B or other 75 based pistol, and get the Kadet Kit.

There's a Beretta Cheetah in 22lr that's pretty nice. I believe it's model 87 or something.

^ Yep, and it would be my pick, they're really nice plinking 22's. Pricey and a bit hard to find though.
I missed a perfect used one at Cabelas a couple years ago, still miffed about it... |

About that Beretta Model 87,,,
I own one and really like my Model 87 Cheetah,,,
I also own and really like my CZ-75B Kadet. There is absolutely no comparison between the two. The CZ was $100 cheaper and has a higher capacity,,, It's a 10 + 1 capacity while the Beretta is 8 + 1. I am noticeably more accurate with the CZ,,, The Beretta fits my K-Frame hands a tad better. My Beretta only runs consistently with CCI Mini-Mags,,, My Kadet runs with anything I feed into it,,, Even old Remington mil-surp LRN. All in all my personal opinion is that the CZ-75B Kadet,,, Is head and shoulders a finer firearm than the Beretta. But the Beretta brings out my inner James Bond a bit more than the CZ. Just a personal comparison of my two pistols. Aarond .

This is tough, since you already have good pistols (Ruger MK, 22/45).
-- 1911 style? ==== I have tried a base model Ceiner conversion on my 1911 long ago with the thought of training for cheap with a 1911. Non adjustable sights and lack of lock-open on last round did not work for me. At the time I tried the ceiner, I had a couple of Browning Buckmarks, Ruger MKIIs, S&W 41, and maybe a S&W 617. Sold the Ceiner since I had so many others that shot better. Now, A conversion is very low on my list but I kind of want to try an Advantage Arms (something that locks open on last round) and this time without the thought of matching it to centerfire training. I think I will enjoy it more. |

Yeah the sig is nice, but too similar to my Rugers and Olympia TT. I think I might go after the CZ Kadet. They seem to be a little difficult to find though

Found a stash of 40+ year old 22 ammo at the cottage. Went to my LGS and they showed me Rugers, Brownings (cute 1911s that are too small for my hand, sigh), Sigs, and an S&W M&P 22 (last one). Took the slide off the M&P 22 and lo and behold... not only does it have a hammer, it also has a fixed barrel... bonus. Bought it.
Put a few mags thru it, shot a variety of (mostly crappy) ammo, 100% function. It really puts a deep dent in the spent brass. No hiccups. Pictured below is first mag dump (12+1). This is a very light gun, very soft shooter, had trouble not limp wristing, (a bad habit of mine) as you can see the target has a couple of fliers. I do better with all steel. Bought it for plinking, but it might do for carry. I wouldn't call it a 'higher end' gun tho. Should be OK for my wife, she currently prefers a tiny 25 ACP mouse gun... btw this is a near full size gun. Best to you.

Do you have a 1911? If so, try the Marvel conversion.
