Shoot it ?
I have a brand new in the box blued Ruger Old Army with a manf date of 2006. It's so dang nice I can't stand it. I'm getting to the point that it's driving me nutz looking past it everytime I choose what to take to the range. More to the point, I can't bring myself to fire the first shot through it!
What you say ? Should i cherish it's beauty and respect my decision to keep it pristine or should I take her out and give her a good spanking! LOL .... |

CHOOOOOOT IT!!! Just clean her up real nice when you are done. You won't hurt that ROA by firing her. Mine was manufactured in 1973, I bought it used and there is no telling how many balls have been fired out of it, ans she is still a beauty queen! smoke em if ya got em

I'm going with "Buy a used one and shoot the copy" also.
I like to shoot my pistols, but I like having one of the same model NIB too. |

Right now, it's just a shiny piece of metal that looks like a Ruger. It's only after it's fired that it becomes a pistol. Always "proof test" fire any purchase just to make sure it really is, what it looks like.

It's just a Ruger. Shoot it.

It's not an heirloom or old historic piece with rarity.
It's nice. Shoot it.

I just don't understand a regular, production model firearm being used as "art", but that is just my opinion. I won't keep a firearm that i won't shoot. I even put one through my first, childhood rifle once in a while (perhaps to the detriment of a treerat this weekend, hmmm ). Why not take a few really nice, well-lit pictures of it in its virginal state & keep those for posterity. If they only made a handful, i guess i could see museum preservation, but i wouldn't want a museum piece in my safe hiding from public view.
Surely a good cleaning will keep it nice enough to be safe-worthy. Maybe some lube on the outside of the cylinder could limit the turn line? No offense intended; i may just be ignorant. |

No offense taken Photography happens to be my 2nd hobby and sometimes i get carried away combining the two.
A lot of valid points given here and yes, this is not a heirloom nor a rare piece. As i don't intend on ever selling this gun i might as well get some enjoyment from it. The ceremonial first round firing will take place soon! Then if I'm really disappointed I'll just blame it on you guys... LOL Last edited by straight-shooter; February 21, 2012 at 12:28 PM. |
