left hand 870
im a southpaw shooter. ive never had a left handed gun though, i do fine with a right hand gun.. the local decent priced stores dont have a southpaw gun, so my ? is it worth the extra trouble to find a local seller and get a leftie or not?? thanks for any suggestions...............

Most stores will order a southpaw gun for you. It's really no big deal to eject out of the starboard side. Like yourself I'm a southpaw and I'm use to it. I do have southpaw shotguns (20 ga and 12 ga 870s) though to go with my right handed shotguns.

It's absolutely worth the trouble. It will feel very natural to have the hull eject to port. Plus the looks from other shooters will be worth it.
NOW, I know I'm going to start a flame war here, but I was not happy with my lefty 870, which was not as well made as the older guns. My Express (made July 2001) didn't like brass-coated steel-base ammo (Federal, PMC, etc.). It would lock up after firing, and would only release after I slammed the forend forward and backward to jar it loose. I noticed other QA issues that Big Green didn't see as worth fixing, so I sold it. I replaced it with a LH Fabarm H368 auto bought for $550 new, and I've never been happier.

I have a 12 ga. Mod. 870,Remm. It is the only LH weapon I own.
I bought it used in 1974, at which time it had about 5 boxes[125shells], fired throught it. I added about 100-125 more rounds for a total of 250 rounds. It hasen't been fired since 1982., so the action is stiff! It,s not even broken in yet. It has a five round extention on it, which will be coming off soon at it is just too heavy for this rapidly aging body to carry ,but it is fun to load up with 10 slugs or 000 buck |

The nicest thing, is the LH safety. But then the safety on a RH 870 can be reversed for LH operation. Personally, I like the ejection port on the right side of the gun being a southpaw myself. What I do not like is the RH semi-auto's, sometimes it seems like my eyebrows end up smoking.
