Glock 30S or Springfield XDS?

So I've decided that I want a subcompact .45, and have narrowed my choices between the two. I currently have a 21SF so I could use those mags with the 30S at the range. But I wouldn't make the decision based only on that. I mainly conceal a Ruger LCP, but would prefer a .45 for IWB carry.

Any users thoughts based on experience between them?

I have shot both and the XDS just felt better in my hand.

The 30S is still going to be fatter than the XDS, so if that's an issue, the XDS might be the better option. If you can conceal a G19, you can conceal a G30S. In addition...5+1 for the XDS, or 10+1 in the G30S. Personally, I think 11 rounds of .45 is better than 6 rounds of .45. The fact that you have a G21 and can use it's mags is icing on this cake. The G30S is going to be my next Glock, if I can find one and get the funds.

I was in the same boat recently. I was comparing the G30, XDs and CW45. I ended up with the CW45 because I preferred the Kahr DAO trigger and it fit my hand like a glove. The XDs wad a close second but I didn't like only having two fingers on the grip with a 45. I liked the glock but man was it thick compared to the single stacks.

The difference between a single stack and double stack is pretty substantial, both in comfort and capacity. If you currently conceal a Ruger LCP, you're going to have a big surprise with either choice, as they are both much larger.

If you don't care about the added comfort the XDs offers, the G30S would be my choice. However, a lot can be said for the "forget its there" comfort of a single stack. Personally, I carry a Walther PPS, and I have double stack subcompacts to choose from as well. The comfort is worth it to me.

5+1 rounds is where I start to get a little nervous. 7+1 with a reload is right at the edge of my comfort level. 10+1 I am more than comfortable with. This is something you need to decide for yourself; thousands of people carry 5 shot J-frames and feel very well-armed. Others feel anything less than 15+1 rounds is too little.

I think these are both great choices. If I was in the market, I'd be looking at an HK45c as well. I believe it is one of the greatest handguns available today.

Personally, I'd go with the Glock. I mean, eleven rounds vs. six? If I don't want to conceal that Glock, I'd just go with the Glock 26, with a 442 or P11 as a BUG.

Apples and oranges. The G36 is a direct comparison to the XDS. The G30S has the same fat frame the G30 has, but with the smaller G36 slide.

I'd pick the XDS over the G36 and the G30/G30S/G30SF over both.

Sold my Glock, replaced it with an XDs. No regrets.

I also conceal my Glock 21SF a considerable amount. My LCP is is mainly concealed when I wear scrubs... which is a lot. I am a huge fan of my 21SF, but sometimes concealing it is difficult.

Glock 36

I agree the Glock 36 is a more comparable alternative to the XDS than the 30S.

Unfortunately the 30S and XDS are nowhere to be found where I live. There's a bunch of 36's around.. so that might be the direction I'm heading?

The 30s is more comparable to the XDm 3.8 Compact. The Xds is a great little single stack but I'd feel better armed with the XDm 3.8 C.

Here's the opinion of the century; the Springfield XDs is the most comfortable and easiest gun to carry IWB I have experienced to date. I have XL hands and with the pinky extension, fits like a charm. My girlfirend also loves to shoot it and she is 5'7" and 125lbs so I say for all intensive purposes the XDs wins. The glock isn't natural in my hands nor hers.

I'd rather have 6 rounds of .45 than 6 rounds of .380

I found an XDS today.. and it was the only one between several LGS's. After handling it, I was absolutely hooked. Fit my hand perfectly. Can't wait to clean it and shoot it this weekend

Not a Glock fan, but I do have an XDs which I love for pocket carry ... not in the rotation yet because I need another 100 rds or so through it, but it will be in my pocket soon ... easy to shoot, feels great in my hand ...

I'd love to pick up the 30s in the neer future,I bought the XDs on a whim
and must say it has exceided my expectations(loves my 200gr.lswc)
I will use this for summer/deep concealment I admit I'm struggling with
the 5+1 a bit and am having a hard time putting the 19 away.

I own the XDS, my co worker who is formal SF owns and carries the Glock 30.

We actually shot them side by side last week and traded off. I am not a huge fan of Glocks due to my smaller hands. It shot well, it was OK in my hands, I shot it decent. The XDS to me felt better in my hands. I also added a grip extension and Hogue slip on grip since I didn't care for the aggressive texture.

He did not like the XDS, said it felt good, just a little too much snap in the recoil for his tastes. He shot well with it, however this is to be expected due to his level of training. He still said he would rather the Glock 30, as I would rather the XDS.

They really are two different guns, each right in their own regards, depends on what feels the best to you my friend.

bikerbill,
I was wondering about how many rounds you have through it now? Any issues, or has it performed well?

Am I the only one who noticed that the Glock 21, in the trio picture posted above, has a barrel for .....50 GI

So maybe I am curious as to whether it was just a drop in and whether that Model 21 can be switched back and forth between the .45 ACP and the .50 GI.

What is the full story, mitranoc? Need the .50 in case a mature Florida bull-cockroach decides to charge you?

Aw heck, you don't have to have a 'need' to own any gun. Just a 'want'.

Mitranoc, I've fired about 100 rounds through it so far, with no failures ... all were FMJ, the last 100 or so will be Hornady 185gr Critical Defense ... assuming it continues to be failure-free, probably be carrying it in a few weeks ... the real issue, of course, is finding 100 rds of CD ...

Good eye Bart Noir. Yep, just an easy swap of the slide, barrel, and recoil spring. .50 GI magazine is a bit fatter as well. I originally fired a friend's Glock conversion, as well as his 1911 .50 also from Guncrafter Industries. I really liked it, and already had the 21SF (Can also convert the Glock 20).

Some of those roaches here are big enough to put a saddle on

Good to hear, I'd like to be carrying mine soon as well. Will be shooting it this weekend. CD rounds are tough to come by here too

XDs capacity

For those not comfortable with the XDS 5+1 capacity, remember you still can carry a spare magazine. 11 Rounds!!!! in a super tiny package.
