the hamilton rifle No27

my neighbor showed me a 22 rifle he has, its a hamilton boys rifle no27. problem is he tried firing a 22 lr in it. it didnt blow the barrel, but the forend is gone and it no longer locke the barrel in place. any ideas on fixing it or is it worth trying? not much finish left on it, but it is an odd rifle.

Those were kind of an odd break action rifle, with brass barrels with steel liners. They were chambered for 22 Short black powder rounds. Firing smokeless rounds in it is not a good idea. If it is damaged, he is pretty much out of luck for fixing it, as the rifles have not been made for almost a century.
