Test planned on LAPD SWAT's new issue pistol?

Hi there,

Do you guys have a test planned on LAPD SWAT's new issue pistol? That would be a cool article. I'm sure Kimber would send you the same spec'd gun to test.
Keep up the good work.

As a matter of fact we've had one in the works for around a month. Bureaucracy hold-ups at present. Our report plans on going inside and finding out why D Platoon (aka SWAT) picked the Kimber as well as their testing protocol.

Man you are on top of things!

Thanks for the prompt reply,

I'll be watching for it.

Also, I really liked the mindset article in the last issue, good stuff!

Update

In addition to the testing protocol feature, S.W.A.T. has been able to get one of the few LAPD SWAT pistols. Now not only will we be able to report on why they selected the Kimber, we'll give it a field test of our own.

For a sneak look at the actual test pistol, click here:http://www.thefiringline.com/Misc/kimber1.jpg

This photo was taken "down and dirty" in a hurry. Trust me, pics in S.W.A.T. will be much better.

LAPD Kimber

Excuse my ignorance, but, is the pistol in photo not a single stack? If so, max 8+1 rnds.? Why wouldn't LEO's want higher cap mags? Is it because other weapons available have huge capacity of rnds(like, full-auto?) Just a wonderin'

Thanks!

They embrace "The Modern Technique Of The Pistol"

(I've heard) on LAPD SWAT. From pg 101 of Morrison's classic,

"The potential advantage of a high-capacity magazine seems questionable since most confrontations occur at close range, with good-sized targets, and are short in duration. If one makes proper hits, the situation will more than likely be handled with the cartridges in a single magazine."

I read on the net someone's training report in which they trained with some guys from LAPD SWAT, and supposedly they quoted chapter and verse from this book(which is a textbook on what is/was taught at Gunsite/API). I think some of their senior people were Gunsite/API instructors/students? There's some Gunsite knowledgeable people on this board, anyone know?

And I'm sure their armorer could throw on an Ambi for the lefties if need be.

Tamara, a local shop has the PRO model in at 2295. I almost sold my car to get it before common sense took over :-)
