Under $1100 scope for 7mm Mag

Hi
i am trying to figure out what is the most powerful scope utlized by 7mm Rem Mag' range that I can but for about $1100 +/- $200?

I intend to use my rifle for hunting in desert over long distances and for target competition over 1000 meters.

Appreciate your advice.

I had a Burris Signature 8-32X that was pretty sweet.
Had light collector, everything.
Kinda wish I hadn't traded.

The Bushnell Elite series are the most underrated scopes out there. +95% light transmission through fully multi-coated optics. Waterproof and Shockproof but best of all, Fogproof. I love the RainGuard antifog coating. It really works. This line started from buying the B&L series...excellent optics. I've mounted these on the worst recoilers imaginable and never had a failure.

My brother got a Zeiss 5.5-20x scope for about $1k.

He put it on his 8x57 Mauser.

The glass is excellent.

I used a 6X Bushnell for a while, did all I needed. finally went to a 4X12, it will shoot as far as you can see. If you want to spend the money, go for a Zeiss...I have one on my 7mm STW...it's the purest I have ever seen.

Why do you have to pay so much? you could get a Nikon Monarch 6-24x50same lifetime warranty and awesome glass. Keep the extra cash. I have a 7mag and although I dont do long range hunting I put a non tactical Nikon monarch 4-16x50 and its SMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOKIN!

"...over long distances..." What do you call long distances for hunting? Are you using factory ammo or reloading? What bullet? How far have you ever shot? Have you looked at the ballistics of the 7mm mag? The highest energy at 500 yards using Remington factory ammo comes with 150 grain Scirocco™ Bonded bullets. 1704 ft-lbs. However, when sighted in at 200 yards, it drops 34" out at 500 yards. It drops like a brick between 300 and 400 too. About a foot.
High magnification scopes come with weaknesses. The higher the magnification, the smaller the field of view(FOV) is. A Burris Signature 8-32X, for example, has a FOV of 4.5 feet at 100 yards. A Nikon Monarch 6-24x50 has an FOV of 4.2 feet at 100. Both on maximum magnification and both will be much smaller at 1,000.
"...for target competition..." Not all matches allow a magnum of any kind. Limits the matches you can shoot with a 7mm. Plus if you're not reloading, you won't find match grade ammo in 7mm Mag.
There are match grade bullets available for reloaders though. Hornady makes a 162 grain A-Max and Sierra makes a 168 and 175 grain Matchking. Use the 175 grain Matchkings for 1,000 yard target shooting. Cheap they ain't though.

Got my Leupold Mark IV LR/T 4.5-14x50 mm with illuminated mildot for about $1300 from SWFA. Awesome scope for that price range. Shot out to 1200 yards.

For a bit more money, you can get the Nightforce 3.5-15x50/56 mm. This runs about $1400s. The optic is a bit better. Draw back is the Nightforce is a second focal plane scope, which is not quite ideal for tactical shooting. I have the 5.5-25x56 mm in mildot on my AIAW in 308 and AIAWSM in 338 Lapua Magnum. Love those scopes.

+1. When I bought my last scope, I was set to go either Leupold or Zeiss. After comparing the Leupold and Zeiss, I had my cash out to buy the Zeiss when the salesman suggested I at least look at the Nikon's. After a side by side, I was very impressed and ended up walking out the store with a Monarch instead of the Zeiss. I suggest it is certainly worth you time to consider a Nikon.
