I suspect the main concern of news organizations nowadays is to push whatever position they have on the issues. Facts just get in the way.

Fiancée- Is that a new gun?
Me- uh no way babe, I just had this one painted. It was really cheap, my buddy did it for like $20.

Translation- A) It's a new gun. B) It was a $200 cerakote job.
