Ruger Ammo Input

First time user of the new model Ruger Super Blackhawk in both the 7.5 and 10.5 inch barrels. Intended game Whitetail Deer. Plan is to sight in using common 240gr soft nose hunting rounds in 44 Mag from Remington and Winchester- unless there is a particular round you guys might suggest as being a better choice?

The last deer i shot with a handgun went 20 yards...Hornady XTP. But you are on the right track with your selection as well. Any well built 240 gr soft point should do it.

The general recommendation for large-diameter handgun bullets is for a hard-cast bullet with a large meplat. Common result is a large wound channel with very deep penetration, and regularly fully-through the animal.

If you're sticking with factory, Remington SP are hard to beat.

Found info online for Buffalo Bore "Deer Grenade".
Wondered about those.
I do have Hornady XTP in my carry gun.
Thought about those hollow points, but was not sure of deer performance.
Thanks for the suggestion. I intend to change the grip, and after I do that, I'll try some of the Hornady rounds comparing how they hit to the Remington and Winchester. The very longest possible shot where I hunt with a handgun is about 50 yards. Right now I'm using a six o'clock hold and hit perhaps 2 inches high and on center into a four inch bull at 25 yards. I figure I should be reasonably in the vital zone if a 50 yard shot presents itself. You guys figure I'm about right so far?
