Have not personally used this product but instead, use Frankfort Arsenal Flux. It Absolutely gives off no smoke but then again, I only run lead outside. Previous to this, I only used bees wax or just paraffin and it smokes quite a bit. Here is a site that give Gar Flux a good review.

I have only used old candles that the wife had laying around that she doesn't use any more. Still have a bunch left and a big container of saw dust for when I run out of wax.

Here's what I use.
http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct...tNumber=260495 It's basically a wax, it does smoke, but it will not cause RUST! I suspect that FA flux is a powder, the same as brownells marvelux. It IS hygroscopic. That means it grabs moisture out of humid air, just like a pile of salt. It'll rust the inside of the pot, AND your cast iron molds if it get on them.

Indeed it is a powder and will definitely have to look into this as I have been using it for about five years now and recommending it as there is little or no smoke. I have not noticed any abnormal amount of rust in my pot. Will get back to the forum on what I find out. Thanks for the information. Be Safe !!! |

GAR Flux---
I called up there and talked to an older woman and she said her husband
was the one who started the business and he passed away a few years ago. She was extremely nice and said they get a lot of repeat orders. Her son is running the business now. I sent my money order out today. I like helping the little businesses out. Very high Quality product-No toxic chemicals and very reasonable. GAR Flux 590 McBride Avenue Paterson, N.J. 07424 Phone 973-754-1114 Thanks for the link and to Crowbeaner and all of you for your help and info. |
