What to build next?

It’s January again and time to start a new build.
For the past few years I start an AR5.56 build at the 1st of the year and buy the parts as I find them on sale throughout the year.
This way I build a top quality gun on a low buck budget.
Well this year I want to build some other caliber other than 5.56 and figured I would allow my fellow board members to chime in with their ideas and pros and cons.
So what do ya think and why do ya think that is the rifle to build.

Just to clarify I want to stay with an AR platform type (semi auto) build not unless someone has some awesome Masuer action ideas.

For a little while I was considering building an AR in 6.5x40, but decided I didn't want to go the AR route. If you don't have anything else like it, that would be a pretty cool thing to have.

I decided to finish up a long range bolt action build I started a while back.

Sounds like you and me would get along... one reason I quit the build was I quit finding the parts I wanted on sale. There's something rewarding about building quality stuff for a really good price.

Unless you have one already, I would think an AR-10 in 7.62 X 51 would be the easiest way to go.

The problem is I have no "wants or needs" to speak of.
That's why I am asking what folks would suggest.

You could try a 300 blackout AR build.

17 Remington or 300 blackout both are based on the .223 casing.

How about a 300BLK suppressed SBR if it's legal where you live or just a pistol if you aren't.

Yeah the 300 BO was one I was looking at and that 17 Remington is interesting.
Anyone build one of these yet?

Grendel necked down to 6mm. 18" or maybe a 20" med contour barrel, free floated. Nice two stage trigger. That's on my want list anyway.

17 Remington...I think the .204 Ruger is a slightly better choice. A bit better bullet selection and barrel life is a bit better. You get a tad flatter to reach out than the .223 and the recoil is nothing. If you don't like comps, you can still see bullet strikes out past about 200 yards with the .204.

I looked at 6mm and 6.5mms based on necking up the .223 case and am currently waiting for the barrel for a 6.5mm.

300 Whispers are cool, I have a pistol with a SIG cuff set up for subsonics (close to SBR ergonomics but no tax stamp) and a 16" set up for supersonics.

The beauty of all of the above is just buy a barrel. Everything else, including magazines, is straight .223/5.56 parts.

Huge fan of the .450BM (and working on the .450 Corvette). Very accurate and capable for any NA game out to 300 or so. It is also just fun to shoot 250 grain slugs that hit like a brick. A slight mod to a 7.62 bolt, put a blue single shot follower in a .223 mag, get a barrel and you are set.

Ideas:

AR-15 pistol in 6.8 with one of the Sig Arm Braces for a pretty decent carbine.

M16A1/ stock service rifle

Hunting AR-15 in 6.5/6.8 or AR-10 in .243, .270, .308, etc.

SR-25 DMR-type rifle: 20 round magazine, canted iron sights, flat top upper with optic, 20" heavy barrel, fixed stock and rifle buffer

AR-15 with heavy barrel, bipod, heat shield, and Beta Mag as a SAW blaster type rifle. Perhaps a slidefire or one of those TacCon "full auto" triggers?

Varmint Rifle

Pistol caliber carbine/ AR pistol

Build a "thousand yard" AR

Build a 3 Gun AR

http://www.everydaynodaysoff.com/200...-ar-15-uppers/ One of these

Anything interest you yet?

Thanks folks and thanks to the guys that just pm's me.
Great idea's.
When I was a kid I built plastic model - cars, trucks, airplanes, etc.
Now the AR platform is my big boy model passion.

The next logical build is a 6.8 SPC II. Lots of parts and ammo available.
