U.Clays for Unique

Loaders:

I currently load 5 grains of Unique in .38 Auto to shoot in my Astra 400.

I got a few pounds of Universal Clays and would like to use it in the Astra. (Not all at once!)
The burning rate chart shows that they are right next to each other. I can't find a .38 Auto (Not SUPER) load using U. Clays. I use both in my .45 Colt loads. 8.5 U. Clays, 8 Unique. I don't like to just interpolate. Thanks!

You didn't say what bullet weight.
Assuming that you are talking the "standard" 130 grain bullet Hodgdon has the 38 Super starting load as 4.7 of Universal for 23,300 CUP. 38 auto max working pressure is listed in one of my booksas 25,700CUP. I suspect that most .38 Super STARTING loads will work in your 400.

Thanks for the comeback. Yes, the bullet is 130 grains. With 5 gr Unique, it clocks at 1025 FPS. The gun will function with 4.7 gr. I use.38 Super cases because the Largo brass wasn't yet made by Starline when I got the gun many years ago and I bought a bunch of them.
I had it polish blued and got a new barrel. A real crowd pleaser, everyone wants to shoot the "water pistol"! And no other auto I have throws the brass as far!
