Just picked up a couple of Yugo Capture K98 rifles. The bores look good with no rust or pits. Did the Yugos put new barrels on them or do they have original barrels?

Some Yugo M98/48 or MOD98/48 capture K98 Mausers did receive new barrels. The new barrels are .250 inch shorter than the original MOD98 barrels. 23.250 vs 23.500+/-

The Slav's built pretty good Mauser style rifles, starting with the M1924 with the help of FN and continuing through the late 50's with the last of the BO's.

A new barrel should shoot 8mm surplus at or under 3-4moa. Hand loads could shoot as well as 1-2moa. I have no problems getting sub 2moa shooting factory priv and the 50's surplus is 3-4moa with assorted Yugo Mausers.

I hope to have the same results with mine. Thanks for the reply madcratebuilder. I want to scout scope one of them without permanently altering the rifle. What mount and scope to do you suggest?

You can get a scope mount that replaces the rear sight, it require that you use a long eye relief scope. I've never messed with the scout scope set ups.

I have never really liked the Mauser sights. I ended up buying a Mojo double aperture setup. Apertures at both front and rear, both have different size inserts. Now I can shoot these with reasonable accuracy.

Some of the Yugos 98s were completely arsenal reworked or that is what I have been told.
Also many the 24/47s and the 48 Mausers I have seen from SOG and SAMCO etc are in almost perfect condition with near mint bores. I have fired several of these rifles using the original Yugo ammo and was very impressed. IMHO these are bargains and I think once the word gets out, they will sell out soon.

I'm glad to hear a couple of you guys are having success with your Yugo Mausers. I will update later with a range report and I'll try to load up some pics. I want to pick up another one, but I'm undecided as to which other one to add to my collection. I'm thinking either a Russian Capture or a Persian if I can save the extra $$$

The Russian captures tend to be pretty rough, lot of peening and that thick nasty varnish coating on the stock. You well find a jewel occasionally. I just cleaned one up that ended up looking original with a nice laminated stock.

Keep an eye on Gunbroker and you may find a BO with a Syrian, Iraqi, or Egyptian crest.

This is a Syrian crest, probably a Israel capture from one of the late 60's wars, then imported to the US post 1968.
