dillon powder check system

Will the Dillon powder check system work with the Hornady Lock & Load progressive? Is it the same diameter and thread size?

I believe there has to be a hole in the toolhead for the Dillon system to work. The RCBS Lockout Die will work with any press with standard threads, and in my humble opinion, is far superior to the Dillon system.

+1 on the lockout die, almost fool proof.

I have seen pictures on one of the reloading forums of an adaptation using the Dillon powder check on a Hornady LNL AP. The rod that contacts the shell plate was fitted with a fender washer, and a clearance groove was cut on the outside edge of the "die plate" for that rod to go down on the outside.

Andy, that seems like a lot of trouble to go through, when dies like the Lockout Die just screw into the tool head.

Thanks everyone's for the input on using the Dillion primer alarm system on the Hornady L-N-L . I'm sure I will not go to the trouble to drill on the press or shell plate to make it work. I'll just use the RCBS set-up.

Alleycat,

I agree that it is more of a hassle, but it can be done (which is what the OP asked). If one already has the Dillon powder check system, adapting it would be cheaper than buying an RCBS lockout die.

Who says we reloaders have to take the easy road anyway? ;^)

I'm a dillon junkie, but that powder alarm is the only thing that Dillon makes, that I don't like. My advice is to save your money.

One thing with the RCBS lock out die is that it only works on straight wall cases, if you load bottleneck you will need to use something like the Hornady powder cop, this will only give you a visual indicator of over/under charge it won't actually lock the press like the RCBS unit will.

The Lockout Die works on bottleneck handgun cases.

Not sure, I'm going off what I was told by RCBS they told me their lock out die would only work with straight wall cases, I didn't actually try it because I load a ton of .223 ammo and only wanted to have to purchase 1 powder check device.
