Imr 7828 ssc

I am testing loads for my Remingtom model 700 BDL in 280 Rem. I am using Barnes 120 gr TTSX and 140 gr Sie SBT Gamekings. Both bullets like H4831SC but, I think I might be able to improve my groups.

Misc. info:
I use RP brass. CCI large rifle primers, and RCBS Gold Medal dies. The Barnes average 3079 ft/sec with a SD of 18 and the Sierras are clocking in at an average of 2829 ft/sec and a SD of 9. I have also tried R-22 and IMR 4350. I like a full case or slightly compressed load.

My question is this, does anyone out there have any information about IMR 7828 SSC? Hodgdon has data for the Barnes which shows higher velocities and pressure (than the H4831SC). Not sure I want to buy a pound only to find zero improvement.....I'm cheap that way!

I checked my Nosler manual and there not showing it till it gets to the 150 grain and with there bullet. The Nosler manual is showing there best powder for the 120 grain b.t. there bullet to be AA3100. I know thats not what your looking for, and sorry I could not give you more info. Hope someone else can. Good luck, with the cost of powder I know how you feel.

7828-Maybe a little slow.....

My own experience with 280 is both have liked IMR4831 and RL19, with 19 posting the best at the chrony. I stick with 139-145gr bullets because my 7RM is stoked with 160s. One other thing I've noticed with both the '06 and 280 is I've not gotten the accuracy after 80% load density. Example, my best performing 140BT load is 55gr of RL19 with 57gr max. The ES of the 55gr load @ 3027 is 29, and the ES of the 56gr load @ 3083 is 87. These loads were posted in a 26" barrel.

I tried 7828 with 150NBT and only got about 2850 with ES of 150.

Apropos of that, in, I think it was, the load development chapter of the Precision Shooting Reloading Guide, the suggestion was made to find a powder that gets toward maximum pressure at about 85% LD, and to use that as a starting point for accuracy load work-ups.

I haven't tried R-19 and maybe I should. My reloading partner has used it with some sucess......I think in his 30-06. I'm sure he wouldn't mind an experimental donation.

Looking at the Hodgdon data, the IMR7228 SSC is suppose to produce higher velocities and 6400 higher PSI than the H4831 SC at the starting load.

Hey, I know every gun is as different as the members of this forum and mine just may favor H4831 SC
