8 September ICORE Revolver Match Missouri

The Big Piney Sportsman's Club is a Brand New ICORE Club, and the only one currently in Missouri. This was our first invitational Monthly Match. The turnout was a little low, but it will take some time to get the word out that we have a place to play with your revolvers.

We had a very good day shooting Revolvers Sunday. We started out at 9 AM with a light shower, just enough to cause us to bag the D1 Silhouette targets for an hour, but probably not enough rain to have hurt anything. We had one new non-Club Member shooter, Bob Briggs from Memphis, Tennessee. Bob made the 250 mile trip just to shoot an ICORE match with us. Bob did get to shoot 3 Qualifier Stages, One in each sanctioned ICORE Division, something you would probably not have enough time to do at a big match. His handle is “Tennessee Bad Boy” and it fits, he is Bad to the Bone with a revolver. Bob was a very interesting fellow to talk with. This was confirmed by comments from other shooters after the match. Everyone enjoyed talking with Bob about revolver shooting. He also helped us smooth out a few wrinkles in how we were scoring the match. I hope we get to see more of the Tennessee Bad Boy.

The ICORE Classifier Stage was CS-012 Close Quarter Drill. This Stage has 6 D1 targets, each target gets 3 rounds in any order. This is a real test of your reloading speed.

Shooting the Second Stage with the Mail Box Simulator, I originally thought that using the Mail Box for a rest for the longer shots would help. Trying to take a rest slowed your target engagement down way too much.

The Cubical Confusion Stage required you to carry a briefcase in your weak hand while engaging the 3 Bad Guys in the First Office. This was different than just shooting with one hand. This stage required you to engage the targets quickly, and accurately, as well as getting with the program on your reloads.

The last stage we ended up setting up a little differently than described originally. We set the Dual Swinger up in front of all the steel. You had to engage the 2 Pepper Poppers, 2 Shorty Tombstones, and 4 Tall Boy Tombstones when both D1’s on the Dual Swinger were out of the road. You also had to get a couple rounds in the Shoot D1 when the No Shoot D1 was out of the road. Trying to keep track of the D1’s while getting on the Steel was a real challenge. This was one of those Stages you would like to practice on for a couple hours before shooting for score.

29.55 Second Run, 2 A Zone Hits on the D1 Swinger, and all the Steel on the ground
Happy Happy Happy as the Duck Guy would say.

I love ICORE, problem is around here too many semi fans and not enough ICORE, so our ICORE matches have petered out.

We just started shooting ICORE at Big Piney. At the moment we have 5 local revolver shooters, and 3 of them are Club Board Members. I am hoping we can get the numbers up over the next year to atleast 10 regulars who make every match. We have the only ICORE Club in Missouri. The Club in North Arkansas quit shooting. I am hoping to start picking some of the old Arkansas ICORE shooters back up as word gets out that we have a NICE place to shoot.

One good thing about not having a massive number of shooters, is you can shoot multiple Divisions. We charge $10 for the first entry, and $5 for all additional entries.
For $25 and ammo, I can shoot my:
686 in Classic
610 in Limited
617 in Club Rimfire
15 2" in Club Snub

That is pretty cheap intertainment for a full day at the range.

I think we have plenty of revolver shooters, getting them off the couch is a different story.
We have new Modular Walls, Good Steel, Plenty of Silhouette Stands, Lots of Props such as Bianchi Barracades, Car Door Simulator, Store Counter, Barrels, etc etc. I am hoping that posting reports with pictures will get some interest stired up. We also have a great bunch of shooters at Big Piney who are friendly, and not snobs. That is a big help getting shooters back to the Range.

Another thing is we do not have to do more than cover expenses with ICORE to start with. Our Club makes it's real money from Rifle Matches. We have an IBS 600 yard Bench Rest Points Match Saturday, and a Tactical Steel Rifle Match Sunday, followed by 3 Gun. We also shoot 600 yard F Class, Non-IBS 600 Bench Rest, 50 yard Rimfire Bench Rest, Trap and Skeet, Reactive Steel Handgun, and Defensive Pistol Matches. My brother and I set up the Handgun Matches, and we are both primarily revolver shooters. I am planning on hanging in their till I get ICORE jump started in Missouri.

Another thing I like about ICORE is you do not have to be an ICORE member to shoot a match. That really helps to gain new shooters. Another thing is you can pretty much set a match up any way you want. Lots of Steel, No Steel, Shooting from Cover or Not. Using Simulators, or not. No round count requirements.

Well I better close. I have Dutch Ovens to load, and Hog to cook today for the Club Hog Roast.
