Can't find any componets for 34-40Win.

Hi gang hope I put this in the right place. I have my Great Grandfather's Winchester 1894 leaver action 32-40 rifle. I have tried to find ammo for it for 5 or 6 years now with no luck. Now I'm looking for brass and bullets to try reloading my own but am haveing the same bad luck. Any help out there would be greatly welcomed.

P.S. I need to learn to type too the rifle IS a 32-40

This is a start I suppose.

I wouldn't use that as gospel though. Just a little something to get the juices flowing.

There's a good article in Ken Water's "Pet Loads". Lee #2 has data. Most folks reform cases from .30-30. The .32-40 is a natural cast bullet cartridge and .323 cast bullets intended for the 8mm will work fine in most rifles.

Dubby, check on the single shot boards as 32-40 is popular with them. Seems like this brass only gets run once in awhile. Also, in the interest of preserving that fine rifle, you might want to think about casting for it to keep from wearing out the barrel, plus you can size your bullets according to increase accuracy. If you don't know how to do that, check with the cast boolit boards. sundog

Dubby,

If you don't mind the drive, there's a big gun show Dec. 10-11 or something like that at the Farm Show.

I'd bet that you'd be able to find ammo or components or both at that show.

There were some 32/40 fired cases on ebay. Also check Midway, they had the cast bullets for it. Just be sure what you shoot has the right nose as it's a tubulare magazine. Those 94s are neat old guns, I had one in rifle years ago that had been made in 1912, had a half round and half octagon barrel. Sold it to buy Colt series 70. So it goes.

Dubby, here's a link to a place offering .32-40 Winchester brass.

http://www.bosesguns.com/product_p/winsc3240wu.htm

Midwayusa.com should be able to help with the bullets, dies and other stuff.

32-40

Try Buffalo Arms Co. They list brass and bullets for it. I have used them and they seem like a good outfit to deal with.

You can try sizing 30-30 or .32Special brass (use a lot of lube) and you should come up with brass that will work. You might end up a little short on length, but it shouldn't matter much at all.
