Ruger LCR 22cal.

I have a LCR 38SP. that I like very much. I'm thinking of buying an LCR 22cal for range practice . Just like to know if someone here has one and if you guys think its a good idea.

I love my LCR .22. I have a S&W 442 and practice with the LCR has helped me shoot the J frame better. The trigger and sights on the LCR are so much better than the 442, that I'm thinking of selling the Smith and buying a LCR.

I have a Model 34 J-frame in .22 LR and a Model 36 J-frame in .38 Special,,,
I do believe that practice with the .22 translates to better proficiency with the .38.

If for nothing else than I would have never been able to afford the equivalent amount of ammo for the .38.

One thing I do recommend though,,,
Shoot the .38 as well.

My typical practice routine is 50 rounds of .22 and 5 to 10 rounds of .38 Special,,,
My thinking is I need to remain very familiar with the extra recoil of the .38.

Just a few weeks back a gentleman posted about his experiences with his pair of Ruger LCR's,,,
He also felt that practice with the .22 translated to proficiency with the .38.

Your mileage my vary but I believe it has worked very well for me.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll go ahead and get me a LCR 22lr lots of good ammo from CCI available. Makes practice more fun when its cheap to shoot.

Good choice.

I have one too. I figure it's one handgun almost anyone is able
to shoot (family, friends etc) and one I should always be able
to buy ammo for.

I am fond of the LCR 22. I am a firm believer that practice with a 22 of similar shape and handling is great for shooting the larger caliber revolvers capabily.

I was looking at a LCR in 38spl the other day thinking essentially the same thing. I use my LCR 22 for practice with a short barreled snubbie. My snubbies are a Colt Detective Special and S&W 442. I am not a big fan of the 357 mag in general. It is okay for law enforcement relative to the reasons for its creation, but from a practical perspective for self defense you don't need the 357 mag power for the most part unless you are knowingly walking into a fire fight. In which case, I would choose a semi-auto pistol, and a rifle or shotgun if I could get away with it.

For hunting, I think something larger such as the 41 mag, 44 mag or larger are much better choices than the 357 mag.

my wife mot a big fan of my sub compact 9mm due to the recoil so I bought the LCR 357 so she could shoot it with light 38 load , now in hindsight i wish i would have bought the lcr 22. do you guy thing shooting 38 out of the 357 will have less recoil than my 9mm

You have the LCR, shoot it and find out about the 38spl's. The 9mm and 38spl are about equivalent for the most part. The handgun design has a lot to do with felt recoil.

Thanks again for the replies. I also have a SP-101 357 that I really like. I just ordered a ACE-Case holster for carry. I have a DeSantis IWB for my LCR, the SP-101 will fit but I don't want to stretch it so a new holster on the way. I'll be picking up The 22lr LCR next week.

Probably not, the LCR is super light and revolvers tend to have more felt recoil than an auto. The recoil springs and action of auto's tend to translate to less felt recoil vs a revolver in a similar caliber. Lightweight carry guns are appealing but not the best choice for recoil sensitive shooters or those who wont practice with them. I would suggest the Sig 232 or Walther PPK in .380 for a smaller gun with minimal recoil, or if the .380 is too snappy the Walther PPK in .32ACP .

You dont need cci in the lcr-22, 2x boxes = $14 for 100 rounds. I buy federal red box 550 value pack for $19 or $23 for WWB 550 pack. They both eject fine no sticky. I had problems with the blazer though, they don't seem to work in the LCR-22 or Taurus 94, but in the S&W 617 it works.

Only prob with my LCR 22 was some ammo was hard to eject. Like Velocitors and Fed. CCI MiniMag seemed best, for me at least.

The LCR-22 is well-built, accurate and fun. IMO it is the best .22 revolver for under $400.
