Bullet one caliber depth - w or w/o champfer?

I'm getting ready to load .204 Ruger for the first time and these little 32gr Nosler varmint tip are really short. From the ogive to the base, they run about .238" on average for the bullet only leaving .411" in front. But these Nosler boat tails have about a .060" chamfer so I really can't seat the bullet at one caliber length of "straight wall contact".

If I seat the ogive to the end of a cartridge neck at the minimum trim length of 1.840", the OAL is 2.251", if it's in a case at the maximum trim length of 1.850", the OAL is at the max of 2.261".

I assume I wouldn't want the ogive "below" the rim of the case neck, is it best to keep the cases trimmed at the minimum 1.840" length then . . . ? Thanks.

2/3rd's caliber of the shank (not boattail) is a good departure point.

For any reason is beyond me that Ruger is always longer that other major mfg's such as savage, remington,ect.. they seem to have a longer throat to the lands than my savage. Did you perform a gauge test with an COL gauge or such with the likes of Hornady COL gauge, my savage model 12 vlp are as follows,
HORNADY # 22004 32GR V-MAX is 2.278 book says 2.245 -hornady's
HORNADY # 22006 40GR V-MAX is 2.279 book says 2,245 -hornady's
BARNES # 3356-642-0211 26GR VARMINT GRENADE is 2.241 book says 2.260barnes
MIDWAY # 49464 DOGTOWN 2.210 No reloading data http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct...mber=939544231

these are for this rifle only and not to be use for others as gospel.. , as informational only, I do measure on the ogive for top performance but again some rifles perfer the '' JUMP'' into the lands however mine likes the 2k off the lands.

If you treat the cartridges with TLC, protecting them from bumping and any undue pressure on the case neck and/or bullet, and gently inserting them into the chamber, you can load them quite a bit longer. This is done most commonly in bench rest and target shooting.

If they are for field use, one diameter or deeper is preferred.
