Snow out of barrel
I have heard that you could put a single layer of electric tape on the end of the barrel to keep snow out of it. Is this okay or is there something else that I should try? Does it vary between shotguns, rifles or muzzleloaders?
Thanks |

Yes, It works. Don't tape it on too tight. I'd not worry too much about the shotgun, unless you just burry the barrel in a drift. I tape mine when it rains. It does not snow here...

In the service we used a rubberband to hold a dry, unlubricated condom over the muzzle. And you can shoot through it with no problem, if needed. Cleaner than using tape with that sticky residue getting on the barrel.

I bought a big bag of black baloons at wal mart and just slip one of them over the barrel. works great, not really noticeable, and doesn't leave sticky residue of tape.

I don't have to worry about snow here in south Ga, but I do worry about rain during muzzleloading season. I cut the fingers off of latex gloves and put them over the barrel and nipple. Works like a charm and it's cheaper than condoms or baloons.

Second BillCA's suggestion--He beat me to the punch on it. Works great. But better than a condom... If you know someone who works in a restaurant, get a hand full of little finger condoms they probably have by the thousands in a first-aid locker. They work even better.

I use black electrical tape, or one of those Traditions 'gun-condoms' for sale at sporting goods stores. The electrical tape is better because those gun-condoms rip & tear too easily. Shoot right through either - not a problem. But I am only worried about rain, not snow.

Try some of that cheap masking tape.It actually sticks to the metal better than vinyl electrical tape.
