If I could only have one revolver, it would be a Smith&Wesson 360 PD.
No further explanation needed, as it's an S&W!

If only 1 HANDGUN, it would be the S&W model 19, 4" or 6", your choice.

I could not go with just one revolver. I would cheat, and hide the rest of them somewhere my could not find them.
I like all of my revolvers. I just could not pick only one. No way no how. Shown in the picture his & hers revolvers. His 6 inch Model 28-2 Highway Patrolman .357 Mag Hers 4 inch Model 67-1 .38 Special with Houge MonoGrip. Note were bought used. The 67-1 was bought last year on Christmas Eve price was $325. The Model 28 was bought two weeks ago for $300.

If it has to be only one, a K Frame Smith, the 10 is the classic in .38, the 65 if you want .357 ability. They aren't sexy wonder gun autos; but they've worked well for the last 114 years.
My grandfather carried one as a police officer from the 20s to the 50s. I carried one when I came on in the 80s. 10 65 I carry a nickel 2" Model 10 every day.

For a looking at and range gun you need something classy and pretty - that shoots too.
Either of these would be all that and then some. They're in your price range too.

For me, it would be a Dan Wesson 715, I can fix anything that can possibly go wrong with it. I have everything but a frame in spare parts. I doubt anything would ever need to be fixed though.
If my 715 was gone, it would be a S&W 28. |

I would say a S&W K-frame, choose your poison. They no longer make them, so spend a little extra for one of the good ones.

Just one revolver! I'd go with S&W model 19 .357mag. with 4" barrel. Any S&W "K" frame with 4" or 6" barrel, In .38spl. or .357mag. Ruger revolver's in 38/357 would work as well.

No matter what the question, if its about a revolver the answer is Ruger.
.357 mag is a good all-around caliber if you're only going to have one. You should always be able to find ammo for it and it gives you the option to shoot cheaper, lighter recoiling .38 special ammo as well. Do you want double or single action? DA- GP100 SA- Blackhawk Get a 6-6.5" barrel for better accuracy and velocity than the snub-noses but still short enough to carry. Just my .02 for what it's worth

I went through this last spring, I had a bunch of revolvers but wasn't a really really good shot with any of them. I did a ton of research and finally settled on a 4" Ruger Redhawk in .45 Colt as my one revolver that can do anything I need.
I do live in Alaska. I hunt moose in bear country and fish for salmon in bear country. Top end I can load big enough bullets hot enough to feel good about putting my rifle down long enough to dress a moose. Around town CCW 255gr at 950fps muzzle has been getting it done since 1873. For steel target matches - I shot four last summer - 230gr at 750fps is right in 45ACP territory so I get to play. All with the same one gun. It is kind of heavy for everyday carry, close to four pounds with a belt, Simply Rugged Pancake and 2 speedloaders. With the Redhawk at 5oclock OWB in the pancake I can do everything but sit in bucket seats, it does fine on the bench seat in my truck. Feeling I have the Redhawk pretty well mastered, I recently picked up a New Vaquero (also 45Colt) for every day carry. |

Haven't read every reply but for me a Ruger Blackhawk .45 Colt/.45 acp convertible, standard blue one, 4 5/8 inch barrel. Revolver heaven. Bread and butter. Steak and potatoes.
