Sometime the best defense is a good offense

Here is an example of a state being proactive to get ahead of the potential federal government invasion of our rights. I love it and wish we had a way to take the approach national.

==================================================

A group of Wyoming lawmakers is pushing to preempt any federal crackdown on assault weapons in the aftermath of last month’s school shooting in Connecticut.

The bill would prohibit any Wyoming law enforcement official from enforcing federal gun restrictions.
“It’s because we take our Constitutional protections seriously,” Wyoming Rep. Kendell Kroeker told Fox News. “I took an oath to uphold, support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of Wyoming.”

The bill reads: “No public servant as defined in W.S. 6-5-101, or dealer selling any firearm in this state shall enforce or attempt to enforce any act, law, statute, rule or regulation of the United States government relating to a personal firearm, firearm accessory or ammunition that is owned or manufactured commercially or privately in Wyoming and that remains exclusively within the borders of Wyoming.”

Kroeker said he wanted to put some measure in place to protect Wyoming gun owners should President Obama enact gun control.
“It concerns me because I don’t think he cares for the Constitution at all,” the Republican lawmaker said. “I think he would go as far as he could get away with in taking away our gun rights and we want to stand up and push back.”
Kroeker said he believes President Obama wants to take away Americans’ guns.
“That’s what’s at the heart of his agenda,” he said. “He wants complete government control.”

The state lawmaker said he has gotten strong support from his constituents and notes that he happens to be a gun owner as well.
“I care about my family enough to make sure if someone is going to come into our home that we are going to be protected,” he said.

There's already an open thread on this here.
