I nominate the S&W Sigma as the worst... gritty, numb and heavy. a lot of guess work preloading the trigger and trying to find the breaking point.

Thanks everyone for your excellent thoughts. I'll be looking at all of these.
Does anyone have any thoughts on the FNP-45 trigger? This has been mentioned to me on another thread.

I think you need to define what you are really after.
We can talk all day long about triggers, but a S&W Model 41 22 target trigger means nothing (as perfect as it is) unless that is what you are after. If you are after a good trigger in a DA/SA, then that falls to the Sigs, HK CZ P07 group (purportedly CZ is best but have not tried one out). The nice part on the DA/SA setup is if you have time, you thumb the hammer back and you are in good trigger control SA mode all the way. You can still pull off a quick DA shot and then have SA the rest of the way. I can say the Sig SP2022 matches up extremely well with the HK P30 (actualy the trigger is a bit better, the HK wins on a better grip, both shoot very well). |

Most of the handguns today are made for LEO, military or SD and the triggers are set up that way because of the role in which they were designed to be used.

Glock fans tell me that I just need to "train with it", and then I will learn to shoot it accurately. No, you need to learn how to do a trigger job. Mine run 2lbs w/most of the take up removed. |

best
Different from each other but both excellent are my Gold Cup and my old High Standard Victor.

For me, the best FACTORY triggers:
DA/SA: The FNP/FNX after about 500 rounds. DAO: Sig P250 SAO: A tie between the NHC T3 and a lightly used STI Spartan. Worst: DA/SA: A double action PARA I shot once... atrocious. DAO: An older model Taurus 66. SAO: An ATI 1911 (I think?) that had about a 10 lbs. trigger. |

Actually, I think the best DAO to be found in an semiauto would be a Kahr Elite, although the Para LDA is pretty sweet too.

As far as semi autos go SAO rule and the most available firearm with the "best" trigger is going to be a 1911.
Others that are hard to beat or top the 1911 include S&W 52 S&W 41 BHP Competition model SIG X series SIG P210 Even the Automag III and Desert Eagle I own have great triggers. |

The best trigger I've felt out of the box on a semi auto by far is my newly acquired Dan Wesson Valor. I didn't know they made factory triggers that good anymore

SIG 226
I have shot a ton of different handguns. Owned 3 colts, 2 smiths, HK usp , walther ppk/s Sig 232, sig 238, and I just bought a sig 226, and folks the trigger is scary light after the first da pull. I love it!!
Im sure some customs could be better, but right out of the box the 226 rules. |

I have a Walther PPS, and the trigger is pretty good, though not my favorite.
Of all the handguns that I own or have shot, the one with the worst trigger out-of-the-box was my Browning Hi-Power. I did a few easy modifications to it though that made a world of difference. Now, my favorite trigger of all my guns is on... my Browning Hi-Power. My Browning Buck Mark Hunter is a close second, with a very nice 2-lb pull, though it's not as crisp as my Hi-Power. |

I agree with Seaman when he says "SA triggers as the best, never met a bad one", among the best SA triggers I put on the podium the Tanfoglio Limited one.
Worst trigger... in my opinion the Steyr GB one was perfect for the Neanderthal man. The DA is very heavy and the SA too. This is the only regret for one of the pistol I prefere (I own two), but we must consider that it was projected to be a Military pistol. With a better trigger group it would have been surely my preferred pistol.

A tuned 1911 is "as good as it gets". Nothing else really comes close.

I'm wondering, why are hinged triggers so much more common than a straight pull 1911 style trigger? Only other guns with a pull like a 1911 were the old colt pockets and the tokarev that i've seen.

My LCP has the worst trigger I've ever used. 1911's seem to have good triggers generally and the FNXs have the best factory DA/SA triggers IMO.

I agree with Seaman. I guess a good trigger on a 1911 might equal a high end vintage S&W or Colt revolver in SA, but the better grip position on the 1911 makes it no contest.

Here's the best factory triggers I've encountered:
The Best SA Trigger : Star Firestar (Bet you thought I'd say 1911! The Firestar is a similar design, though.) The best DA/SA trigger: Walther P99AS Best DAO/Glockish trigger: None of them, but I guess a Ruger SR9 comes closest. Last edited by Fishbed77; August 23, 2011 at 04:23 PM. |

For me the best "pistol" trigger I have ever shot was on a 1911. It has been worked, and it has no take-up, no creep, and it "broke like glass" at somewhere on the minus side of 3 lbs, probably 2 3/4. It belongs to a friend of mine and I have been trying to find something he will trade for it for YEARS.

IMO, the best DA trigger without a doubt is the CZ75b.

My BD has a okay pull, more in its comprable to competition, would not say best though. The b model may be different but czs need to be in SA to shine
