I think you might be satisfied with any of the major brands. Generally, powder and bullet are more critical choices for success than the brand of hardware.

All brands of dies will do a good job of reloading 45 ACP Gold cup of not. My personal preference is the Lee Deluxe die set for 45 ACP. Others will like different brands, but like I said they all will do just fine.

"which is the preferred brand for reloading 45 auto for a gold cup "

Gold Cups use conventional ammo so any die box with ".45 ACP" on the end will do well.

My Gold Cup is more forgiving than my buddy's Springfield; but, it may just be the chambers of the two specific guns (mine may have been cut with a new reamer and his with an old one).

I like Hornady dies. The sliding bullet sleeve is a great feature and the lock rings are the best made imo.

Edit: I almost forgot about the TiNitride coating. I can size 454Casull with one finger and no lube.

For pistol dies I have become very fond of Hornady dies. But I have purchased some Lee die sets and have had no issues. They work. And they are priced great.

All dies will do the same job until it comes to crimping. Most die sets come by default with a roll crimper. I had to purchase a separate RCBS seating/crimping die which works great.

Taper crimp. I don't know anyone who uses a roll crimp to feed a 1911.

Taper. And, you can seat and crimp without any problem. Why add another step if you don't have to?
I prefer this set:

Moxie I spent several years trying to seat and taper crimp in the same operation, too many varibles, case wall thickness, cases not all the same length etc etc. Why look for trouble especially if your new to the hobby! William

Moxie,
I with William on this one. Like you, I use RCBS dies, but crimp separately.

I agree with the comments that all the major manufactures make great dies. But for myself I buy Redding Competition Pro series dies. The adjustment on the bullet seater is easy to make .001 inch changes accurately.
Also the sizing die is made from Titanium carbide and I have never once used any oil at all where as some manufactures suggest running a very lightly oiled case every now and then. My 45 ACP has sized 10’s of thousands of cases and it’s like new. There only problem is $$$$$$$$$.

I also recommend seating and crimping in two operations.

Lee's deluxe dies work fine for my wife's gold cup nat match.

In some 40+ years of reloading I've found the best dies are the ones that come in a progressive machine. The old time Star dies were excellent and these days Dillon can't be beat. My $.02 worth.

Two and half years and over 80K rounds of .45 ACP loaded, and fired through a plethora of guns. I use Lee dies, they still work.
