Bayonet ID

Here's a new Bayonet that I got recently. I thought it was a variation of an German Ersatz. Can't find a pic of a similar one I saw on a now defunct bayonet board. The brass cross guard made me think Ersatz. The handle having grips milled out on both sides makes me think it's not.

Unfortunately the late owner didn't take care of his stuff. the rust you see on the blade is after its had a fairly good scouring. Still too much rust to read any insignia. That is if there are any, some bayonets exported from Germany didn't have any stampings at all.

The blade has been sharpened, worse luck.

If anyone has a clue about the ID on this thing I'd appreciate it.

I was told by a Civil War expert that mine most likely fit a British .69 Musketoon. The hilt appears to be the same as yours with a yataghan style blade. I can't tell from the pics if yours is a yataghan or straight blade.
I took the spring and button out of mine in the pic to show someone else the slot the spring was housed in.

Mine is a straight blade. I hadn't thought to look at British or Civil War bayonets.
If it had a yataghan blade I would have thought French and been wrong again looks like.

The hole in the cross-guard doesn't look big enough for a .69 caliber, but I've been wrong about everything else so far.

Does your bayonet have any words, numbers, or insignia stamped into it?

Thanks for the response Hawg Haggen.

This looks like your bayonet. Says it's for a Plymouth Navy Rifle.

The handle is the same as both of ours.

Collins & Co. Hartford Conn. on the blade gives another avenue to search.

"This beautiful saber bayonet by Collins & Company is in virtually mint, untouched condition. The blade is just brand new and in its original polish. It is for the Whitney Plymouth Rifle. The rifle that this bayonet fits has a bayonet lug with a rail, which extends about 3 1/8 inches along the barrel, forward of the lug itself. You will note in our photographs, the groove down the top of the bayonet handle. You will also note that the serial number 9159 is stamped on the top of the handle. The Whitney Plymouth Rifle required hand fitting of the bayonet to the gun. It is not really a serial number, but more like an assembly number."

Collins & Co. closed after 175 years.

An unmarked bayonet that looks very like yours, that is a Confederate weapon.

Looks like I'm better at finding info on your bayonet than mine.

Nope, nothing. I had a similar one with an iron crossguard but I sold it recently. It was made by S&K and had a number stamped in the hilt and crossguard but this one has nothing anywhere.
This is the other one.
