Hodgdon has COWBOY ACTION DATA; suggest Universal Clays starting load of 6.4g.

I would start with 44 special data and add 1 grain of powder if you're loading in 44 Magnum cases. There are quite a few 44 Special loads in the range you're looking for with a variety of powders.
Is there a particular reason you need to use 44 Mag brass instead of loading 44 specials? I was also told of a formula that helps calculate reduced loads from max loads based on the velocity you want to get. I compared it to a number of different loads from published sources and found it to be very accurate. I wrote a web page to do the calculation for you at http://www.handloads.com/calc/reduced.htm it should help you get the loads you're looking for with whatever powder you want. |

Thanks WESHOOT2
I checked out the Hodgdon cowboy data, found something close. Sent email to Hodgdon asking for adjustments to use for my loading for 180 JHP vs 185 LRNFP in the data. Want to load something not so punishing, those hot jacketed loads are just too punishing and bad for flenching.
thanks, shootin45 |
