supported chambers in .45

I've been following the thread about Glock .40 kB's and was wondering about the glock .45 and especially Coly/Kimber etc. Do these have supported or unsupported chambers for reloading purposes. (I personally won't have the Glock .45 but two freiends do and I'll probably inherit some of their brass.)

Colt and Kimber are unsupported, and in .45, a fully supported barrel in a 1911 pistol is unecessary.

I've shot 20,000+ rounds through my Glock 21, with no problems. The .45 operates at 1/2 the pressure of the .40. I've loaded my .45's until the cases split.

You will have trouble getting your friends' .45 cases to fit in your Kimber, however. The chamber of the Glock is looser than just about any 1911-style chamber.

45 acp brass fired in glocks, when resized, seems to develope a "belt" just above the extractor groove. When I see this, I trash the cases that show such bulge. They are easy to spot, as they resize a lot harder than do non-Glock cases. Don't know what Glock shooters do.

That "belt" is not a pressure bulge; it's the part of the case that doesn't make it through the die. They'll still work fine in Glocks, but not in tighter-chambered 1911's.
