Just moved out of California. New magazines?

I recently purchased my first handgun when living in California, a M&P 9 that only came with two ten round magazines. Now that I live in Arizona, will I be able to use standard capacity magazines with the gun (17 rounds)? It will probably stick out a little, but I'm okay with that as long as it works.

Why would a standard capacity round stick out? That's what the gun was designed for. Your ten rounders are just neutered.

Hhmmm....Yes, what he said. CA & other states' limited-capacity magazines have the same external specifications as the standard-capacity magazines; the limited magazines are fixed so they can't accept a full complement of cartridges.

I'm afraid that you may have made your escape from CA a little late in terms of re-supplying with magazines. Everyone's forting-up (i.e., siege mentality). If you're lucky, you may be able to find ammunition for what you have.

Time will tell. May Providence bless the United States of America & the Constitution for which it stands--Patrice

Welcom back to America, from occupied, Communist territory. You may have to spend a few extra bucks, to get the standard cap mags, but they will fit flush just fine. I know, it will take some re-education, but you'll get there.

rambutan316, If you call Midway you can put M&P 9mm 17 round magazines on backorder. Won't get charged until it ships, but they are allowing them to go on backorder with the current buying frenzy.

Phew, you just made it. Welcome to America, Ram. Your standard cap magazines will be on backorder but order from MidwayUSA, Brownell's or CheaperThanDirt and you'll get them in reasonable time.

Couldn't he modify his CA compliant magazines to allow the extra rounds now that he is back on US soil?

M&P restricted-capacity mags don't use crimped full-length steel bodies like some older 10rd mags. Instead, the actual magazine body is only long enough to accommodate 10 rounds, and the bottom 1/4-1/3 of the mag is solid molded plastic- essentially an extra-thick floor plate.

It would be easier to build new 17rd mags from scratch than to modify an M&P 10rd mag.

Based on attending a big gun show this past weekend and perusing various online sources, it's hard to get ANY >10rd mag for ANY commonplace new-production pistol right now.

I just despise the arrogance and ignorance of pusillanimous, pansy politicians! (and yes, I do understand redundancy!)

Thanks for the tips, everyone! I plan on ordering some from Midway as soon as they become available. Plus, I'll still have my ten rounders for backup/spares

S&W is sold out online. I placed an order in dec when they still were listed as in stock and have not received it. Their phone supports is , when going through the automated system and you inquire about a magazine you ordered they just simply say all magazines are sold out.
