Especially around the Houston area or around San Antonio?

While I've never trained with him, I've conversed at length with Bill Davison and wife Alice who operate Tac-Pro Shooting Center in Mingus, TX, and for what it's worth he seems like he knows what he's talking about. People who I know and trust have taken training from him and recommend Tac-Pro.

Brian Hoffner at www.hoffners.com. I haven't had any training with him, but I might give it a shot.

I recommend listening to him on 97.5 in Houston on Mondays at 4pm (he guest hosts a 1 hour piece they call "Defending America"). If you don't live within radio distance, catch it on streaming audio at http://www.fmnewschannel975.com/main.htm. It's on the Pruett and Shannon show, also known as 2/3 of the old Stevens and Pruett show - Brian Shannon was Eddie "The Boner" Sanchez - that was on Rock 101 KLOL in the morning in Houston for about 20 years. Pruett now has a gun shop, too. www.jimpruett.net

Good conservative pro-gunner talk radio!

www.krtraining.com in Austin. Karl Rehn runs a great show and brings in many well known folks - Insights, OPS, Givens and others. Rehn's range is near Giddings and easy to get to on 290.

Steve Moses out of Dallas is a great guy also.

www.texastactical.net - Mike Webb runs great matches and is starting to bring in folks - just did Yeager's Tactical Response outfit.

I'll post more later but I've heard great things about KR Training in Austin. I'll be going there next weekend when Tom Givens comes to town.

I have all the schools in Texas bookmarked at home. I'll post them when I get there tomorrow.

Mike had a great carbine match this past Saturday. It was a huge crowd with 60ish shooters. Tough scenarios - make you remember things and move. Bad on my old knees - wah, wah.

I'm doing the Givens class also this weekend. I've met him and he is very impressive. 1500 rounds - wow!

The Austin / San Antonio area is just brimming over with training and matches lately!

One thing that will be fun is that I'm getting a new 1911 and may start with some basics again as I've now shot my Glock 19 for years.

I'm waiting for the Fiesta Regional match. I would like to do the Texas State but will be out of town at that time.

Now I have to clean my guns. Wah, wah - again!

Paul Howe CSAT in Nacogdoches. I have been down there twice and will be going again. He is an excellent teacher. http://www.combatshootingandtactics.com

Karl Rehn, as mentioned, has a good rep. Also, John Farnam regularly comes to Victoria for classes.

pistol training

I'll whole-heartedly agree that Karl Rehn is a good instructor, I took Basic Pistol II with him. I also took the CHL class with Ross & Dorothy Bransford, very good instructors (www.CHL-Texas.com). Ross has some great stories and excellent examples when considering concealed carry. I plan on looking over the sites that SoonerBJJ posted because I want as much training as my time and budget can afford.
Thanks.
