Reload combinations for DPMS AP4 308?
New to reloading and just purchased a DPMS 308 AP4 with a 16" barrel. What are good powder and projectile combinations for this firearm. For self-defense and plinking...

You cannot go far wrong by using Sierra 168 gr, HPBT Match bullets and IMR / Hodgdon 4895. Just follow the recipes, start low & work up.
DPMS 308s all seem to really like the combination. Roger

Agree with Velocette. That powder and bullet are very close to what Federal Gold Medal uses in its match ammo, and it has a reputation for being accurate in about any .308 you put it in. I have pulled bullets on the Federal before and found the load slightly compressed.
The 175 grain Sierra MatchKing also does well, but only stands out when you get to where the velocity drops below 1400 fps. 600 yards for your short barrel. The 168 starts to tumble when it drops below about 1400 fps, while the 175 does not. With your 16" barrel that will be around 600 yards (assumes 2440 fps MV). I doubt you'll be trying to shoot beyond that.
