Good powder for .22-250

I just recently ordered a CZ 550 Varminter in .22-250 and was just wondering what powder is gonna be a good bet for 55-60 grain nosler ballistic tips, I will be shooting coyotes, rabbits, gophers, and rockchucks with this rifle.

I don't load for 22-250, so I can't say from experience. All I will say though is that I have become a huge fan of Varget for most of my loading. It's typically the first powder I grab to try to work up a load. I think it might work good for the 22-250.

I load 32 to 35 grains of IMR4895 behind Sierra #1410 52gr.
Unmodified 700 gives 5 shot 100 yd bench groups of around .80.

H-380 is a good place to start so would IMR4064, IMR4895 OR H4895, N135 might also be very good.

I have gotten excellent results from AA 2015BR. I load 31.5 grains and 55 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips or Sierra HPBTs for right around 3600 fps, and 1/2 inch groups.

Good Powder for 22-250

I'm using IMR4064 with (52 gr HP) (53gr HP Match) (60 gr Sp) (63 gr SP) Sierra Bullets, all seem to group well. I'm not sure if there is a medium burning rate powder that won't do well in a 22-250. I prefer a single base powder for all my loadings, single base powders in my opinions seems to burn a little cleaner! My rifle is a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight, Claw Extractor, (North Carolina Manufactured)!! William

I'm loading IMR4007SSC under a 50gr VMAX. It's the best I've found so far, and I've tried many of them.

4064

It's 4064 for me, and a Sierra 52-53 MHP in my old ruger 77V w/ a vintage USA Weaver K12.

I use H380 for two .22-250's with great luck and I would look at varget.

one more for H380. If you can find any, the fast version of surplus 852 is pretty good, too.

I have had excellent results with both IMR4064 and H380. Have gotten .5 inch groups at 100 yards with both.

What's the twist?

The bone standard factory twist rate for most 22-250's is 1-14
60's may not shoot, mine won't, Look to 50-55 for best performance. That said my favorite loads are
Tac for 50 + 55 grain
R-10X for 50 grain
R-15 for 50 + 55 grain
Varget for any larger loads. (60's are a no go for me.)

Not really a high volume Prairie dog/Ground squirrel gun, they get too hot too fast.

Just my 2 cents...

it has a 1:14 twist Heavy barrel, I don't know if it will heat up that quickly, will it?? ( compared to standard contour barrel)

It will heat up fast enough. My 22-250 has a #5 profile barrel on it, and it only takes 5 rounds pretty fast to get it warm.

I used to load IMR3031 and IMR4320, but I switched everything to WW760 not too long ago.

+1 for WW760/H414.

I just loaded some 45grainers with 38.5 grains. Shoots half inch out of my B-78.

I have been shooting 22-250 forever.

I shoot the 52 gr. hpbt Sierra bullets.

My favorite load has been 33.7 gr. IMR4064 or about the same of IMR4895.

My new best load is 38 gr, H380. The powder meters well. Much better than either of the IMR powders listed.

I also use BLC-2 but do not have the load info at my fingertips. The powder does work well and you can use it in .308 as well.

40gr. H380. Savage model 10, 1-12 twist. 55gr. V-Max, under 3/4 inch groups consistently.

Varget powder and Hornady 55gr Vmax is deadly in mine and will shoot a group you can cover with a dime in my Savage.

Reloder 7 has been my go-to.

I bought Reloder 10x a while back and will be trying it out soon.
