Looking for a good (and cheep) 22 lr scope.

I have a Tactical Solutions X-Ring rifle (basically a fancy Ruger 10/22). I am looking for a good scope for shooting a little paper and mostly for ground squirrels.

The yardage is typically 50 yards give or take 15-20 yards. Our local ground squirrels are about 6 inches tall and 2 inches wide. They are very fast and cant hold still longer than 2ish seconds. I need some thing fast so low power is called for.

any suggestions? Cheep to me is $200-$300

I have a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 Rimfire BDC on a Savage FS VR and I dig it. I paid around $200 for scope and rings. I find at full power the eye relief is not as good as 6x and under. I plan on replacing this with a Vortex 2.5-10x44.

I'm using a 4x Simmons scope ($35) on my 10/22, I can't remember which rings but I'm using an EGW 20 MOA base.

The scope was meant as a temporary rig so make sure I had the right height rings... and you know... the scope works out really well! I don't know that it'd hold zero on a .308, but for .22LR it's adequate!

I zeroed for 100 yards, and fortuitously, the 200 yard zero (using Rem Golden Bullet) is almost exactly where the crosshair meets the post of the plex reticle. Point of impact is off like an inch, maybe two inches at 200. So hitting targets at 100 and 200 yards only requires I put the target in a different part of the scope. It's fast and accurate.

Take a look at the Nikon P-22 scope. Nice one for the money and fits the application. I've got a Mueller Eradicator 8.5-25 x 50AO on my 10-22.

Look at the reviews on optics planet. Its either a Simmons or a weaver. Can't remember but very highly rated for around $50.

I grew up near Boise. Shot thousands of rounds of 22 lr at those squirrels. For your application I would go with a 3-9 or 2-7 variable. Check here http://vortexoptics.com the Diamondback with bdc reticle 2-7x should fit your needs.

If you went Tactical Solutions you went with an expensive gun. Get good glass! I would go with Leopold or Vortex

all 26 of my guns are 45/70 govt, 357 mag, 22 or 12 ga... I believe in keeping it simple. Wish my wife did as well...

I successfully use my Redfield Revolution 4-12x that i use to shoot squirrels with a high degree of success. Also have a 3-9x, and they make a 2-7x.

I have been very happy with it though. Price for them is a little under 200 to around 250.

Simmons 22 mag series 4x scope is on my 10/22 and its nice for the money.....45 bucks. The glass is of surprising quality for 45 bucks.....plenty adequate for 100 yard shooting.

I put Sightron 2.5 X scopes on both my using 22's and am totally satisfied. Might not be enough X's for ground squirrels but the wide field of view will get you on them quick.

I bought a Tasco .22 scope last season and it hasn't failed me yet. It took maybe 10 shots to get it zeroed as they are already calibrated for .22lr. I've bumped it a couple times with no consequenses. It cost me a little over 15$ and is well worth it. You don't need to spend 200$+ on a scope to hit your mark.

I have the Simmons 22 mag 3x - 9x on my .22 lr and my 17 HMR. They are very good for the price you pay for them and they also come with rings or they did when I bought mine a couple of years ago.

Since the option is available these days, I would get a 22LR dedicated scope that has the BDC lines or dots for 75 and 100 yards. Cabelas sells one that I know of, and I think Simmons has one also. A 4 power is fine for a 22LR, but I've gone to 2-7 variables. I switched to the variables because I had them and not for much other reasons. The 4 powers were plenty good enough.

My marlin 25 has a center point 3x9x32 mil dot scope. Got it at walmart for $50, and it works very well.

For a 22lr you need a scope with parallax adjustment since most of your shots will be less than 100 yds and with fixed parallax the crosshairs are not in the focal plane at shorter distances leading to significant error based on the position of the eye. Nobody has perfectly repeatable cheek weld.

I went thorough a lot of looking for a scope for my 10/22 target that I just built. I didn't want to spend $600 on a scope for a $400 gun. My favorite scopes are the bushnell Elite Target with their great target knobs and firm clicks. I have the ET6245 on one of my remington 700s and it is a great scope.

I discovered the Simmons Pro Target and bought a refurbished one on ebay for $100. Highly recommened. Adjustable parallax and good optics. Owned by bushnell now and I believe getting influenced by the Elite Target line. I bought the 6-18x model.

Good luck, Jerry

The Mueller APV has been the rimfire scope of choice at rimfirecentral.com for years.

I got a supa-cheap BSA scope for about $25 at the gun shop when I bought the rifle. Spot on out to about 100 yards on my 10/22.

Center Point has a 4-16x40 w/ an illuminated reticle and parallax adj. for like $75 at Walmart. I bought one for a 10/22 and like it for the price. Pretty clear and holds zero.

I had a Simmons 22 mag scope it was sharp and clear but the parallax was really bad at shorter distances . I gave it away and bought a 3 x 9 burris with adjustable parallax

I'm an avid squirrel hunter and also use centerpoint 4-16×40. Holds true. I have 4 of these scopes and for the money ($70) I'm impressed.
