Big D. Are you kidding? I already have. I can't wait to see if sliding the comb over away from my cheek will get me better on target. The ability to raise and lower the comb will make it a lot easier to go from trap to skeet and back.

Hey Dream,

She looks good. Go real slow with adjusting the comb. I've seen guys send more time adjusting the comb than shooting their gun.

I would not be surprised if the "Drop" for Skeet & Trap, will be about the same. Be sure to keep notes and measurer every adjustment. Adjust the "Cast", and the "Drop" will change. Change the "Drop", and "you guessed it", the Cast will change.

Now get out there and shoot some Skeet and Trap...

Go to the pattern board....put in a full choke / and shoot at a 3" dot at 21 yds or so .....and adjust the comb until the gun is hitting that dot !

Lock the comb in place...and forget it !

After you've done the Point of Impact test ---- then check your pattern / with an XS Skeet, I'd probably set it for a 60% / 40% over point of impact.

Then just go shoot it ...( like you did before )....well hopefully with better scores ( cause Geez....your scores were starting to smell a little buddy ) ....

I'm with BigJimP, I might use 23 yards (Station to Center Post is 21 yards, because I got slow hands[Skeet]). I would also do all my testing (patterning) with the "Under" Barrel (just me). For trap, Under Barrel, Full choke at 35 yards & 41 yards, then use the Mod & Imp Mod when shooting Trap. Save the Full Choke in till you shoot from the parking lot (27 yard line)...

The stuff on the patterning board is good advice. Set it and forger it. I know what Bake means by guys who constantly fiddle with adjusments.

On comb height I recently tried 2 layers of mole skin and decided I like one. That enabled me to float the bird just above the bead and smash it pretty well.

Full choke I suggested ...is just to check "point of impact" ...on the pattern board...so its easier to see the center of the pattern ( for point of impact )....you're not evaluating the pattern / you're just checking point of impact ( which is how you should adjust any comb )....

Patterning a gun is a whole different deal...

Yes, Jim. Someone taught me that a while ago when all I had was a modified choke. As I only have access to a steel plate board, I even had a large piece of cardboard set aside.

Weatherby, Watch out, now. Now that I have the AC I can go from Trap to Skeet much easier. AS of recent, I had to remove or replace the Moleskin. Why the expense of almost $1 a strip was bad enough, I worried about damaging the finish on the stock.

You will have to play with the new toy and tell me what you think of it.

I couldn't use the P Board as the range was really congested and the plate cannot be used when the far field has shooters on it. I just estimated a bit more than 1/8" height and cast off and shot. I didn't do all that bad or, but I shot my average. I suppose that is alright given I wasn't at all use to the new comb and shooting conditions were rotten.

I may have done better if I had cinched the screws down better. Only at the end of the second line did I notice that the comb had dropped all the way down.

I got to get it together though. Maybe I can fine tune the stock over Weatherby's skull.

Baby steps !!! ....make small adjustments..../ don't just jump in the deep end !! ( cut or buy some spacers ....to hold the comb in position)....and the spacers also make it easy to put the comb back at the right height, when you take the stock off the gun for its semi-annual maintenance...

....and you'll be fine ....

Once you get it set, LEAVE IT ALONE!; do not worry about readjusting between skeet and trap; the only time to readjust is if you either gain or lose a lot of weight

Put 100,000 through it and call it good

I got some spacers from the smith. Actually they were washers like what you get at Home Depot that had to opposing sides ground flat. I may go crazy and get some color coded nylon washers if I can locate who carries them

What you say Big D makes sense. There is a swat guy that shoots his Browning XT Trap for skeet and does pretty well.

Yep. And if I don't interfere with a smooth swing (revert to aiming and stopping the gun) it breaks them rather nicely. I tried setting the POI on the Plate. The field next to it was busy so I had to work quickly but it seems about right the way I set it up. 1/4" to the right and 1/8"+ elevation. I think it shoots about 2+" high at @16 yards. With the changes my mounts seems less reliable and I will recheck this after doing a few days of drills. Here is a pic taken of two shots. The one on the right went off as the barreled veered to the left. Other than that the two shots are representative of what I was doing. Full choke lower barrel.

I was trying to follow what Neil Winston suggests for checking POI, but he does that sitting with a bench rest. I think to determine just where the barrels point at and that may be my mistake. I want to determine where the gun shoots as mounted.

Target 4's horizontal line is 3" long. I think the test is pretty poor as I am probably steering or aiming too much, as opposed to staring at the cross hairs, mounting and shooting.
