1187/1100
What are the difference between Remingto 11-87 and 1100 models?

The 11-87 is a beefed up version of the 1100. Most 1100s are 2.75", while the 11-87 handles longer magnum loads, some up to 3.5".
Both are mighty fine guns. |

An 11-87 is basically the 1100 modified to handle BOTH 2.75" & 3" shells.
Main 11-87 differences: 1> The barrel has a gas venting system, consisting of a collar and spring on the front of the gas cylinder. 2> Different extractor (thicker...therefore bolt extractor slot wider, and barrel slot for extractor wider). 3> Magazine tube of stainless steel. Because of 1 & 2, and some other details, 1100 and 11-87 barrels don't interchange. There are about 24 other [minor] changes, let me know if you want a rundown. |

No argument with mjolnir, but there are also some 1100's built to take both 2-3/4" and 3". In fact, I've been looking at a used 20 gauge 1100 LT-20, which says it will take both lengths on the barrel.

The big advantage of the gas venting system onthe 11-87 is that you can shoot any load from light target laods to heavy magnum loads without short cycling or banging the action up. Either gun is a good shotgun, though.

1100's WORK, 1187s MABEE. Just my personal experience, YMMV.
