Rossi Ranch Hand

I wonder if the Next Big Thing is going to be Mare's Legs?

JB Custom made them on original '92 receivers for a fabulous amount of money, then Puma got it down to a thousand clams. My latest American Rifleman has a Rossi Ranch Hand for a little over $500 retail. I wonder what Josh Randall would think?

.357, .44mag and .45LC, so it fits in with the cowboy cartridges. It's got a 12 inch barrel and sells as a handgun. For me, there's absolutely no use for it, but I grew up on "Wanted: Dead or Alive" reruns, so it's got a certain nostalgic appeal...

I figured with the large spread in the gun rag that these threads were going to start popping up sooner than later

I think it looks pretty awesome. I probably would find more use out of a full sized rifle or even a military rifle. The price point is nice, but it's a heck of a lot easier to explain a Marlin Guide Gun in your truck than a "sawed off" rifle like that.

Does look cool though. For those of us a bit, ehem, younger, Woody Harrelson sported a mare's leg in last years Zombieland with pretty great effect.

Thats the kinda gun i would learn to shoot exceptionaly well just to make people shut up when they point out how pointless it is...

It looks great! For five hundred I don't think you can go wrong. Fun gun. And as someone said just buy a 92 stock and put a full size butt on it. But you didn't hear me say that.

Just pay the $200 to get it classified as a short barreled rifle before putting the full stock on it and you're good to go.

Yes, one time per firearm, per owner. There are some other regulations that go along with this, the most onerous being that if you want to transport the firearm across state lines (even temporarily, like for a day trip or vacation), you must apply to the BATFE ahead of time and wait for approval.

Really, I've looked at a couple of these things- the Italian ones that are three times the price- but this one I'd buy. Looks like it will be the same price as the regular Rossi rifles.

The advantage to these things over revolver or a semi-auto handgun are the following:

*There is no hot gas coming out the side of the gun. Great for vechicle use.
*More powerful cartridges than usually offered semi-autos.
*Long sighting radius
*No ejection of brass until you decided. Also easy to catch the brass
*A solid breech that could be used with a suppressor, if legal in your jurisdiction

I really don't see anything not to like about it.
Perhaps someone will make an 1895 handgun in .405 Winchester .

However, I guess that would facilitate the first wrist transplant in the U.S.

Most of all, it has no junk plastic parts and it isn't "tacticool!"

Ya know, everyone mentions "Wanted Dead or Alive" and recently "Zombieland" when talking about the mare's leg, but I'd forgotten that it was also carried by one of the cast members of the movie "Serenity" (offshoot of the TV show "Firefly"):

Great show, great movie, can't believe I'd forgotten about it.

In the previous American Rifleman.

They said it was a heavily modified Taurus,,,
But they didn't say what model,,,
I would buy one of them,,,

I've never seen that show, but I had to look it up.

Seems the gun you were talking about was a dressed up Taurus 85 with a brass casting around it and a longer barrel- to shoot blanks.

I liked the 1897 Winchester with the scope on it.

The feller that was in charge of type casting the guns was my kind of guy.

Totally black sights are part of the recipe. Real Goshen Enterprises Hexsites get there with high-tech polymer coatings over steel. I got there by throwing a shadow over EVERYTHING. Real Hexsites fit in standard holsters as the front sight is a conventional post (handgun versions anyhow). My setup emphatically needs custom leather

. But DAMN is it ever slick on the draw

My "Goshdarn Hacksite" is now up to Mk4. Mk1 looked like this:

Too many glint issues, tube wasn't strong enough, holster draw was messy.

Where can we get a holster for the Ranch Hand and who can put a little leather on it to "customize it"?
