USP 45 Stainless

I made a trade today for a USP 45 Stainless.

The gun is a KH(1997) date code and while it has some mild nicks in the polymer, it's nothing that concerns me. The slide is in quite good condition and barrel wear seems to indicate it has not been shot very much, unless they were using a different barrel - which is always a possibility. It has fiber optic sights, match trigger, extended mag release, GG&G rail adapter, and 7 magazines. I traded my HK 45C with 2 magazines and 2 holsters plus $180 cash.

Hoping to pick up a USP 45 Compact to replace that one with.

That's very pretty, awesome gun.

Hey, since I never remember to ask this, why on so many stainless guns are the barrel and extractor still black-colored? It is a stylistic choice or materials related? As far as I recall, Beretta's 92 Inox and PX4 Inox are the same way.

I can't say for certain, but I would say it's probably due to materials. In the USP, the slide is actually stainless.... where the normal blackened slide is carbon steel like Glock.

The barrel is still a cold hammer forged carbon steel, so it needs the protective treatment to prevent corrosion. I personally find it looks better to have the contrast though, so I imagine both aesthetics and metallurgy play some kind of part.

I like the contrast better too, it's the style I'd choose even if it wasn't necessary. That makes sense.

I really want one of these now, actually, it's a good looking pistol. Utilitarian but not boring.

Good luck! They've been discontinued for quite a while now. That's really why I got it. It's like my only 'rare'-ish HK.

That is a nice looking gun! HK makes a nice looking gun and they work great too. It's funny I was eyeing your new gun's twin in the used section of a nearby hardware store earlier today!

Why did you trade your 45c?

I'm jealous, I just put one of the standard black USP 45's on layaway not too long ago. That gun looks great though.

Only because I think I'll prefer the USP Compact 45 with it's trigger options. I love the HK 45 slide style, but I'm just not a big fan of the P2000-ish frame.

I don't get this, you can have all the same options with the 45c trigger, it's basically the same trigger group. If you don't like the frame okay I can understand, but the trigger just doesn't make sense to me.

I personally wouldn't have done the trade, not for more money on top, but if you're happy good luck with it.

Edit: $750. I know you have to add in the trigger kit and mags, but still.

Hrmph. You're right. I don't know why I said that, lol. I guess it was really just the feel of it. Didn't quite feel right to me. The rattly right-sight slide release wasn't a deal breaker, but it didn't win any bonus points either. Really, I think a lot of it is that I just miss my old USP Compact. I have nothing bad to say about the 45C - just think I'll like the USP version a little better.

Hrm. That's a nice one. Of course, I didn't have the money in cash to buy one outright.

I was definitely hesitant to let it go, but in the end, I'm satisfied enough.

I paid $800 for my 45C. So with the $180 - I basically paid $980. If we compare it to that one -

- USP 45 SS ($750 + $30 shipping + $20 FF = $800)
- Match trigger (at least $80)
- TRU GLO Fiber Optics ($100 or so)
- 45C extended release ($25)
- 5 extra mags - 4 still in plastic(5x $60)
- GG&G adapter ($50)

Over $1,300 total package.

I was trying to get the standard USP 45 from a friend but he wouldn't give it up. :P

Yea true. Some of those things aren't key for me, but you're right that they still add to the value.

Enjoy!

I prefer the early stainless finish of your KH date USP to the slightly shinier finish on the latest stainless models. A beautiful satin gleam that holds up very well. A KH USPc stainless was my very first HK. It's proven to be popular at the range, as people will ask to see and shoot it. Yours looks to be ready for some outstanding range time fun; match trigger, sights and mags ... oh yeah!

Enjoy.

Oh I still have my Gen4 G19... it's a great gun for sure. It just doesn't give me the emotional connection that the HK does. I know that sounds silly to some peole, but ever since I first got in to guns, there was something about HK's that really connected with me... the sucky thing was that it took me FOREVER to be able to shoot them well. Now that I can... I'm going a little nuts.

I just ordered a brand new USP Compact 9mm this morning which will probably see the majority of carry duty except for when I want to carry something bigger.

You're making me want to sell my xds outright and fund either a USP or HK 45 compact with the money....

You'd be very well served with either. I tend to lean towards the USP model, but the HK 45C is also very nice. TunnelRat is a big fan of the HK 45C as well.
