Colt 2nd gen Ivory Grips-Ivory or Plastic/Resin?!

Can some tell me if Colt's Ivory Grips on the Dragoon or any other models with ivory grips under the 2nd generation black powder series (for example C1770MN) were made with genuine ivory or other man-made material??

Once you see real ivory, you'll always remember the feel and look. I'm sure that it's plastic of some type, but the way to tell for sure it to take them off the revolver and touch the inside with a hot needle. If the smoke smells like plastic, well, it's plastic. If the smoke smells like burnt hair, it's ivory. Having said that, it's plastic.

I don't know exactly what they are made of. Polymer resin I assume but I know what they aren't made out of.

The hot needle test is no longer a perfect guide. There are synthetics that look and feel very real. And pass the sniff test.
A popular faux ivory is phenolic.
Even some of the older 'plastics' look very real. I have a pair of (not ivory) faux stag grips on my Ruger Single Six. They have been there over 40 years and have taken on a nice patina just like real ivory or antler would.
I have made some non-gun related items from phenolic faux ivory and sold for high dollar. It is very nice stuff.

Only 20-25 C1770MN's produced. The Colt literature states Ivory grips. In 1984 the grips had a $200 price tag.

To all of you out there, just that you know.....I spoke to a few people that know, IT IS ABSOLUTELY REAL IVORY !!! On all 2nd generation Black powder Colts, Whenever Colt factory said Its Ivory grips....It is Ivory grips!
