Score! I bought a .45 ACP mauser!
I was at the Palatka, Fl gun show yesterday and came accross a Mauser that has been chambered for .45 ACP and modified to be fed from a 1911 magazine. The wood is very nice, I'm sure it must have been refinished because a 65+ year old rifle just does not look that nice. The reciever is a nice VZ 24 crested BRNO drilled and tapped for a scope. It came with the rings too. The barrel is new and 16" long and the bolt has a turned down handle. The bluing overall is about 70%.
I'm pretty excited about it, I remember seeing the kits for this conversion a while back and they were like $300+ if I recall correctly. I considered getting a kit and building the rifle on a Turk Mauser action I had, but I read that the Turks were unusual and were large ring actions with small ring barrels or someting like that. Anyhow, I figured it was more of a hassle than I wanted to deal with and didn't want to gamble on buying the parts and never doing the build. I don't think I could have done as nice of a job even if I would have been able to get the parts for that price. I got this rifle at what I thought was a good price. $200 cash and a yugo SKS. He was asking $400. I can't wait to shoot it. I have been thinking that this would be a great gun to install a suppressor on. I know that's a big expense, but if I was ever going to suppress something, this would be the weapon I'd choose. Maybe in a few years if suppressors aren't banned by Obama and the overwhelming Democrat majority that will go in with him if he's elected. Look for a range report in a few days. |

Cool rifle! I have been wanting to build a conversion similar to that, only in 45 WinMag. Good find!

I was playing with ordering one of these a while back, but was afraid to pull the trigger. I'd love a range report when you shoot it.
Thanks, RT |

Rhineland arms. It's kind of like a spanish destroyer. They sell a kit.

Too cool! Now that's a working conversation piece... If I could just get a 10/22 in .357 or .44 magnum.....

it would be the perfect candidate for a suppressor. No bolt noise, and the ammo could be loaded to just under supersonic speeds to maximize the performance. a mauser action can definately handle alot more pressure than a .45 ACP round can make unless you get stupid.
I may end up doing it. |

I got an Enfield chambered in 45 ACP from Century arms. I was pleased to find that the gun lived up to Century's reputation for, the lack of, quality control.
The gun would not feed out of the box, but was otherwise very well built. After some minor tinkering it now works great. A little fussy on COL as I found with my shorter reloads, but a great shooter. Gotta cast some more 45 slugs.
