Ruger 1911 Commander now listed.
Looks like the web site was finally updated, http://www.ruger.com/products/sr1911/models.html it is now on the top of my 1911 list as I perfer the 4.25 barrel length.

[EDITED: Sorry - I must REALLY be getting senile ! ]
When I looked at the OP, I saw "Remington" instead of Ruger. My bad. . Last edited by PetahW; January 5, 2013 at 05:40 PM. Reason: Ran For Feeble Club Presidency; and Simple Club VP ;) |

The Ruger Commander looks every bit as nice as the Government. Would like to have both!

Love my full size SR1911. Perhaps it will get a little brother in the future. The commander sure looks nice and if it handles as well as the Government, it will be a fine gun.

Are these Ruger Commanders actually for sale now? Or is this just one of those teasers, where we won't see the actual gun in stores for a few years? I can't even find the full size SR1911.

It seems that today is Rugers new model day. The SR45, SR1911 Commander, and a new stainless 18" version of the Gunsite Scout Rifle, and probably a few other new models I've yet to see.

Just fired off an e-mail to my rep seeking availability. Hadn't planned on another Ruger, but this will force my hand.

Does anyone know if my standard 8 round Wilson Combat mags will fit in the commander?
Ruger has it listed as 7 +1. |

My guess is "yes". I'm assuming that Ruger is just going to supply 7-round mags when sold.
And from the website: "(Commander-Style Model ships with two 7-round magazines); bushing wrench; and soft case. -- Mike

Back in the day, Ruger was famous (or, infamous, as it were) about "releasing" new guns to the gun writers and magazines with reviews and print ads, and then they worked hard (and LONG and SLOW) and it took them seemingly f o r e v e r to get their "new" guns to the market. It upset and annoyed...well, just about everyone. At some point in the recent past, Ruger took a look at that and addressed it. These days, they come up with an idea, design a gun, test that gun, and get it close to final product before they tell anyone. Even then, they invite gun scribes to a closed event complete with a confidentiality clause and they introduce the gun to THEM, with a signed guarantee that mum's the word. When the gun is ready for showtime, they announce it--usually on the website (and sometimes with an "upcoming product announcement") and produce the first run of them and get them to distributors. The gun you see on the website is typically available from some distributors immediately. The SR-1911 was never the vaporware of the old Ruger. It was in ultra-high demand when it was released and though there wasn't a zillion of them available, they were out there. I know, I shot an early one when nobody could find one.

Someone say they wanted a blued version? I will probably break in my new gun then send it off to have Bear Coat put on it. One of the colors is pretty close to blue only that its black. The site said its two bills to have it done and with the added Teflon it should help me at least up here in rainy WA.

"When the gun is ready for showtime, they announce it--usually on the website"
"ALSO INCLUDES: Swedged link pin;"This from their website. If it comes with an included "swedged link pin" then I gotta have it. But the question is:Are they for real? Last edited by polyphemus; February 2, 2013 at 02:16 PM. Reason: typo |

Yes they are real, a guy on the 1911 forum already has two of them and he is in Alaska.

The Ruger MSRP is significantly less than the new Remington Commander's. It would be interesting to see a range comparrison of the two.

In two years you may actually get to buy one.
Ruger is as bad as RIA, Springfield about listing guns you can't get. |

SR 1911 Commander
The gip medalions on mine were ugly. They looked like a knock off. I complained to Ruger and they sent me a nice replacement. Ruger is still very good about makeing customers happy. I love this gun. It looks as good as it shoots. I'm going to have to get a arched mainspring housing for it, but thats just personal choice. I am going to order the Novac night sights from Ruger but for the most part this gun runs like a champ right out of the box.
