Anyone cast for 9x18 Mak?

Planning on using this round for rotation in my CC. What mould works well for the 9mm Mak? I really like the CZ82 I picked up, nice addition especially for the money.

Lee makes a 95 grain round nose mold for 9mm mak. For the money, it will probably be your best bet to start off with. A nice big round nose should function well in your pistol.

I have the lee mold and it works fine in my p64 and pa63.

that CZ82 has polygonal rifling. I thought I read somewhere that using cast results in a lot of leading with that...can anyone confirm this?

you read stories of glocks blowing up once in awhile because of the poly rifling. the main thing is to keep an eye out and check for leading. if your really worried about it. you either have to stick to jacketed or find a new barrel for it.

I use cast bullets in my CZ82. They are 93 grain LRN's that I bought from Mastercast. They work just fine with the p-rifling. I haven't loaded them very hot yet; I'm still forming brass from 9mm's.

Does anyone know if a gas check would work fine in the polygonal rifling?

I'm going to order one of those plain base check makers in 35 cal, and as my brother has a Glock, this may work.

Thats not the only reason I'm buying the check maker, but has anyone tried it?

let me know how they work for you, I may go that route myself if I cannot find a mold to cast my own, but I think I will try that 95 gr RN one from Lee mentioned earlier in this thread.

Right now I am using Berrry's plated bullets with decent accuracy over Bullseye. Have you tried those?

The only thing I've tried is the cast bullets from mastercastbullets.com (they look just like the Lee mold you're talking about) and Silver Bear hollow point Russian ammo. Both work great.

I'm loading over 3.3 grains of Red Dot, which is pretty mild, to fireform the cases. When I get a nice pile of 'em, I'll try something stronger using Bullseye, Unique, or 231.

That Silver Bear works great in mine too. I am experimenting with 3.5-3.6 of Bullseye and the Berry's 95 gr bullet. Easy to shoot and not bad accuracy. I really like the gun, the grip feels like it was made for my hand. Using an IWB tuckable holster for CC which I am getting used to.

Cutting down a bunch of 9mm Luger cases is a pain but very nice way to use range brass for this 9x18 ammo.

I shoot the Lee 95 gr. RN in my PA-63 and my friend shoot it in his CZ-82. The statement about not shooting lead bullets in polygonal rifling is true but thats lead as in soft swaged lead bullets.

The key to shooting hard cast lead bullets in polygonal rifling is make sure the bullet fits the bore,cast it hard and use a good lube. My friend has put probably a K of cast bullet through his CZ with no issues and I know several Glock guys on other forums that have done the same.

I've shot the Mastercast also in my PA-63 3.5 grs of HP-38/W231 was the most accurate 4.0 grs was bit snappy so I save that load for the Speer GDHP. I know Missouri Bullets is carrying the 93 gr. cast for the Mak. also.

A couple things of note on reforming 9mm to 9 X 18 the Lee Chamfer and Deburring Tool doesn't work with the short 9 X 18 case I just use the RCBS tool. Also if you polish the bearing surface with some 600 grit paper on the 9 x 18 case length gage it seem to work much better.

I've also noticed for taking some measurement from all the various 9mm brass mfg. that the Rem. is the thickest by about .001" and is harder for the case length gage to go into the case smoothly. I just use those for my 9mm loads.
