Trouble with my 1866 Carbine

My 1866 carbine replica was shooting dead center all morning...then, abruptly, it wasn't. Suddenly I couldn't make a shot to save my life. And it happened between one shot and another. One shot was dead on...the next shot went who knows where. It looks like the screw that holds the front sight barrel band together broke off inside. So a trip to the gunsmith will be in order

Just what the heck do you expect when you use one of those new fangled cartridge guns?

Sorry to hear of your woes . . . what do you think the cause was? Was perhaps the screw "overtorqued" when initially assembled? Hopefully you can get it mended up easily so you can go back to shooting it . . sure looks like it would be a lot of fun!

I've had this gun for almost 20 years with no problem. For 10 years it was my main match rifle, so a lot of rounds went through it.

I got the screw out today with a punch. It was totally stripped. I don't know how. To my knowledge I've never had to touch the barrel band or band screw.

ordered a new band and screw from VTI gunparts.

Were there hose clamps, or something like them, for field repairs back in the day?
