I read the recent post about a single powder for many different cartraiges, but what about the best (or favorite) powder for the different cartraiges.
I have winnowed down to these powders because they work well and are accurate in my particular guns, but I am always experimenting. (Currently I am investigating the AA series of powders.) Mine are (currently) the following: Pistol & Revolver 45ACP Bullseye on 230 FMJ's 10mm Power Pistol on 180 grn JHP's 10mm Blue Dot on 155 FMJ's 40S&W Universal Clays on 135 JHP's 40S&W AA5 on 155 FMJ's 38spec Unique on 158 lead SWC's 380auto Unique on 88 JHP's Rifle 7.62 Nato IMR-4895 on 168 BTHP 7-08 Rem. IMR-4064 on 139 BTHP Any suggestions for the other best powders? ------------------ |

Gee, don't know if I can do this. Not particularly attached to one power or another. Will go with what I use the most.

You can just about use Unique for all calibers. You will not get magnum velocities, but if I had only one powder, Unique would have to be my first pick.

Bendover,
I agree that Unique is a great general overall powder, but I have found that by using different powders with different bullet weights we can get sometime really great results. This was my question to everyone. What little magical pet loads (to shamelessly steal from a master loader) have readers found. I am not looking for specifics, but just bullets and powders, I can work up the weights and the primers. I hope this clarifies what I was looking for. |

Wow, Peter! What an assortment! I like to keep it simple.
Bullseye for 9mm, 38 Spec, 357 Mag, 40 S&W, .45 ACP IMR 4895 for .223, 6.5mm, .308, 30-06 I buy my powder at the gun show in 4, 5, or 8lb jugs a whole lot cheaper than buying a pound at a time. ------------------ Retired, Broke, and In Need of Brass, Powder, and Shot. Will Work To Shoot! |

If you go to http://www.again.net/~steve/page8.htm and select the reloading data page, you'll find what I found to be the best powder in each caliber and bullet weight. It will be the one highlited.
