Making mags?

I've been toying with the idea of making higher capacity magazines for some of my guns that don't offer them commercially. I do a little welding, and was thinking I could attach a few mags end to end, and replace the spring with one with the same length ratio and tension. I don't know a lot about smithing, but I enjoy tinkering. Have any of you ever worked on a project like this?

You'd probably be better off welding 2 or 3 low cap mags together and using clips to oonnect the springs to avoid heat treating issues. Another spring option would be to use a spring from another weapon mag that is available in high capacity. I was going to do this for my VZ 52 at one point, but I decided I didn't have the time.

I think it's doable. TIG weld them slowly, to keep the heat down.
