Another S&W model 36 question

I'm going to look at a new Lew Horton model 36 at a local shop tomorrow. They are 3" nickel with checkered rosewood grips. Price $625. Any thoughts and opinions would be helpful.

Thanks, Steve

Thats a little much. I would think closer to 400 bucks but I would need specifics, still over 5 bills for a M36 is a little much to me. The M36 came with 3" barrels and round butts so be sure what you are getting.

Edit, Sorry you stated new so that might be the price sorry.

Edit II check this out, Here are 3 that are nice and new and cheaper than the Lew:

I just got another one for my wife. It is a used gun(I like used ones). I have one just like it and she liked it so much I went and got her one also. Here is the link to it:

This one has no lock on it and its BlueBook value is over what I paid. As an investment it was good, as a shooter for a women it is perfect. The slim grip and the 3' Barrel are great for women/men too I like Nickle guns and I love Nickle S&W's. I will put a Tgrip on it for Mrs Sam and she will be set. Her back up is a 16" Puma Carbine in 357(That she picked out herself) so when I am gone between them and my Mean, vicious Golden Retriever I don't worry too much

Thanks again Sam. Yours looks pretty sweet. Hope you got a good deal. If you noticed, the price at Bud's was more then what I can buy the Lew for for locally. I'm thinking of a smaller carry option to my .357 K frame. This may fill the role.

Thanks, Steve

Checked out the 36 today. Pretty sweet. The dealer has two with consecutive serial numbers. Wish I had the cash for both.(Google Jaquas)

$ 625 is quite a bit / but the Lew Horton Special - according to my book only shows 200 being made in the model 36. I do not know how many were made blued or in nickel / or if the Lew Horton Special was only made in one finish or the other in the model 36.

A standard model 36 - new in box is worth $ 400 - $500 around here / and the box is a good $ 100 of the value.

New in box, serial number sequenced ..... they probably are worth what he is asking / but in this economy, I would make him an offer of $1,000 for the pair - and see what he says. I don't think I'd pay over $ 1,100 for the pair if it were me.

I presume you know there were a number of Lew Horton specials made in a variety of models ( models 19 are rare in .357 mag / early model 29's are pretty rare in Lew Horton / but there was a model 29-3, where they made about 5,000 of them for him and called them the Classic Hunter and I see a lot of them around / and then there were a bunch more made in the 600 series ( 627's, 629's, 686's etc ).

If you really like them - buy them - they probably won't lay there too long.

Thanks for the reply Jim. As I said if I had the cash they would be a nice buy. I'm not looking for something to set around and look at. I'm going to pass on them and continue to look for a smaller carry piece. Looked at the snubies they had in stock. They were OK but not sold on them. The search goes on.

Thanks again, Steve
