Took the AR to the indoor range today to sight in the MBUS sights I put on a couple days back.
After getting it zeroed I decided to test both my ability and the difference between the point of impact suppressed and regular. The results are a bit odd.

I fired a total of 10 shots on this test - 5 Normal and 5 with the can.

Conditions:
Distance: 25 meter indoor range
Ammo: International .223 45 grain Frangible ammo (long story)
Barrel: 1:8 16"
Sights: MBUS Flip Up
Position: Standing, shoulder fired, unsupported.
Target: 1.2" ID Bull's Eye

The normal shots are in green, and all in the center circle. I am still getting used to this Geissele SSA Trigger group which is fantastic.
It walked around the bull's eye a bit, but measuring with my micrometers from the center of each hole, I have a 1.006" group un-suppressed and all in the bull's eye.

The suppressed shots are in red. Admittedly, I pulled my last one and I knew I did. But the first four are all touching each other. But slightly high and right of my aimpoint. They in a 0.56" group - discounting the pulled shot. Not really sure how to measure that.

I'm assuming that the added barrel weight on with the weapon from the suppressor helped me to stabilize my aim and tightened my group. Maybe...I don't know. Is this a typical difference between suppressed and non-suppressed shooting? Am I to expect this constant "high & right"?

Well, that is a very nice rifle. Looks like you didn't spare any expense with the parts you put into it. Good job.

My only opinions:

- Sweet upper receiver. Looks like the Vltor MUR1A

- that YHM handguard looks kinda odd. I would've gone with a skinnier one like Noveske NSR or MidWest Industries Gen2 SS handguards, but that is personal choice from my own experiences. But if you like it, its fine.

- Obviously the mag your using. Not sure what kind that is, but I always use Pmags and Lancers. As long as you don't have problems with them, then have at it.

- Overall that would seem to be a heavy rifle. I know that UBR stock adds some weight, plus the longer rail and suppressor. For a 5.56 that probably weighs as much as a AR10. But I'm sure it is a solid rifle anyway. Have you weighed the entire rifle yet?

Actually, the upper is a Spikes Tactical Billet Bio-Hazard Upper. And that thing seats PERFECTLY in the Adcor Defense Billet lower - there is ZERO slop between the two, even when you TRY to twist them.

The photos on the handguard are deceiving. I just tossed the micrometer on them and they are only a 2" diameter (where the rails aren't) which is only .5" larger than the Noveske and the Midwest. I detest the look of the Noveske guard as the slots look like little penises... The midwest design just wasn't doing for me either. And it doesn't have the front side rails either.

The mag is from TangoDown and is the ARC 30 mag. Might not be as popular as the Pmags - but they work flawlessly for me and I find them, due to the straight upper part, to be easier and quicker to insert on mag changes.

It is a bit on the heavy side when compared to light weight AR-15s. It weighs in at 9.8 with the suppressor. However, this isn't a patrol rifle, and I'm not on patrol. The furthest distance I may carry this is onto the lower part of my farm when I hunt coyotes. And I have the Magpul MS3 sling which is fantastic. The UBR stock helps to maintain balance, and while this may be too heavy for the the gamer guns, it sits right for me. I was an M-60 gunner for 12 years, so as long is it is under 23 pounds, I'm a happy camper. Besides, personally, I have an easier time shooting and stabilizing a heaver weapon than I can a very light one.

I like it; but since you asked:

The painted letters are too much.

The BAD lever causes more problems than it solves.

You bought a MIAD and set it up like a MOE...which costs half as much.

But, cool. Go shoot it.

I agree in the photos. For some reason the red looks terrible in the pics - but when you are face to face with it, it is much much more subdued.

I would 100% agree with you if this installation was on a forged upper. However look closely at the Spikes Tactical upper - the side has been milled with an extended pocket specifically for the B.A.D. lever. This prevents the lever from stalling the weapon and prevents accidental engagement which is all too common on forged uppers.

Not sure I'm tracking here - I am using the largest palm swell on the MAID...also, this has the finger rest or whatever that is called which the MOE doesn't...or at least I don't think it does.

I have BAD levers on 4 of my ARs I have never had a problem with them and I am not sure why other people have problems with there's. Nice rig! How long did it take for the ATF approval on the suppresser?

I think you did a really nice job with the build.

The only things I would change are:

1) Can the BAD lever; I feel they get in the way and I've seen them bend in real world use.

2) I'm not a fan of the MBUS sights; I'd swap them out for LWRC or Troys.

The Form 4 approval was about 7 months.

- luckily I was overseas for the majority of that time so my wait was, psychologically, less.

I'm not getting rid of the BAD until I, personally, have issues with it. The upper is designed to accept the BAD lever and so far, I only have great things to say about it.

I'm with you on the sights. They aren't as good as I had anticipated. I may be swapping over to Troys... But I might try out the NEW Magpuls first.
