Can anyone tell me the difference between these two mossberg shotguns.

The 500A was a 12 gauge built after 1964. There are actually a couple dozen variations of the 500. The main variation was the addition of twin action bars early on. In the early 1980s they stopped using the letter designations (i.e. 500ALD) except for caliber designation - 500A=12 ga., 500C=20 ga., 500E= .410
